No, not a Dan Wesson (though I also have one of those).
We won a pistol (certificate) in a raffle. My wife needed a new pistol since she hurt her wrist and could no longer rack the slide on either her Kimber or her Sig. The LGS suggested a Shield EZ from S&W. She tried it and it was easy enough for her to reliably use. Problem was that he only had it in 30 Super Carry. I had not heard of the caliber but the stats that I read seemed OK and he threw in a couple of boxes of ammo.
Fast forward to the first trip to actually purchase ammo... almost unobtanium, very little selection and priced 3 times higher than 9mm or 45ACP. You need to practice a lot and this was starting to add up. Then S&W dropped the 30SC which will most likely dry the ammo supply up even more.
So, I did a little research and it seemed like the Shield EZ in 9mm was almost identical to the 30SC. Even the mags. I saw a complete 9mm slide assembly for sale on eBay and decided to give it a try. It works! For less than $200, I have basically another pistol.
I like the extra capacity of the 30SC so we will use it as the CCW but now we can practice a lot more using the 9mm slide assembly.
Summary, if you have a Shield EZ in 30 SC, you can easily convert it to 9mm.
