I have a couple of the NF 1-4x24 scopes that I use on my Sig556 occasionally at 300 to 600 yd. Although the parallax is "fixed" at 75 yd, I have never noticed that being able to adjust it further would have improved my sight picture at those distances. To my eyes, parallax adjustment simply doesn't seem necessary (functional) in a quality scope in that magnification range.

I downloaded the user manual for the Nikon scope and it does confirm that the website was incorrect in saying the parallax was adjustable. All the other Black models have side focus, the 1-4X28 does not.

Try shooting slow fire prone at 600 yards with it and you'll see the difference. The target is a fuzzy black blob and if you get your head position off by more than a little you can easily find your shots not landing where you think you held.

I've been shooting a little XTC this yr with a Vortex 1-4 and with a Leupold 4x33 FX-II. Both have issues for me. I think I am going to try the Hi Lux next yr.

Thanks for all for the feedback gentlmen. The fuzzy black blob can't be any worse than it was with the M1A and front and rear steel slinging at 600 yd. Hi Lux sounds like an option I'm looking for. Might switch to the RR AR15 as well.

I just took delivery on a HiLux 1-4XTC, it has an adjustable parallax. Haven't shot it yet, but my initial impression is that it's nice. The turrets are as crisp as a Nightforce Comp.

There is a market segment that is being ignored by everyone else.
When it comes to Service Rifle optics:

NF has a $2000 non-parallax adjustable
March has a $2000+ parallax adjustable with a reticle that has been generally panned.
Vortex discontinued their $350 non-parallax adjustable 1-4x scope Ihave one, the glass is decent, but I lose the dot at 600 yards at some point every match.
Leupy has some options through the custom shop that are still non-adjustable parallax. I have a $500+ custom shop FX-II with a 300yd parallax setting and M1 turrets. The glass in them is the same as in the $250 version.

I spend thousands on single use bullets every yr. that have no warranty what so ever. Nightforce doesn't service scopes for free. I have personal knowledge of what people have gone through with Deon, and in any case, if I can get a $450 scope that lasts 3 yrs and does what I need then I'm probably ahead of the game.

At least Hi-Lux has a warranty on their site. I can't find anything but a registration on the NF site, March says that they have a 5 yr warranty, but they also include enough exclusions to get out of anything that they want to.

Vortex is the only company that has a warranty like Dillion. Basically they say If it has our name on it we will fix or replace if for any reason it doesn't work, even if you blew it up.

If you run into a problem with a March scope, Shiraz is going to take care of it. NF continues to list their lifetime warranty. A lifetime warranty isn't that important.

Jay, we have experienced a significant rule change without consideration for what is available on the market to support that rule change. So, the rule change has forced us to make do with what is currently available as a compromise between what we need and what is currently available. Service rifle scope shooters are a small market for the scope manufacturers so the manufacturers will be slow to respond to our need. So we have this great research project to adapt what is available to best fit the need. There have been some small efforts by the manufacturers and suppliers to fit our needs but they have a way to go. Folks are currently throwing money at the problem and buying the most expensive scopes on the market but they were not designed to fit the need so we have a very expensive compromise in play. If we could look into the future we would see that what most folks will be shooting in a few years is not even on the market yet. I would predict that in five years the market will provide what we need for about $500. Best wishes, Clyde the elder.

I have one of the Nightforce ones. I’ve onlyshot one match with it but I like it. Not sure I’d change anything, and don’t see a lack of parallax adjustment as a big deal. I prefer not having to think about it, actually.

I always enjoy the everything sucks in HP perspective you always have. especially since it's coming from the guy that has admitted on another site to shooting his first service rifle match this year. If my math is correct you have $500+$350+$whatever a new HI-Lux cost in a scope that you have not shot a match with but feel justified in recommending it. You find faults in scopes that are winning matches but somehow complain about cost while then saying you've spent thousands of dollars on bullets. So I guess you don't mind spending money but just want to bitch about things you don't have. Pick a lane.

The frickin AMU designed the NXS if they figured it didn't need parallax correction who are you to say? A civilian HM with a March won the P100 the first year scopes were allowed but I guess while you were typing he was practicing and made the reticle work. That FX-II was used to win a national 600 yard title by a civilian shooter. That Vortex scope you are so proud about is discontinued, their new model doesn't meet the SR rules, I guess it was so good they just had to discontinue it? I have a friend that broke 780 with a $200 Nikon. yeah, it ended up breaking and he now has a NXS. It's only a sighting device pay what you want but Quit complaining and get to practicing before you try and speak with something other than self appointed authority.
I got my NXS 4.5x for $1400 so if you think you have to pay $2000 you are a fool, Holiger lists them at $1850, you are over half way there with the three "you know everything" scopes you have now that you have nothing to show for. I guess you are banking on the stellar competition reputation of Hi-Lux. Have fun with that in a fishtail during an EIC match you drove several states to get to so there was more than one measly bronze medal. Instead of commenting about how firm the clicks are while sitting in your living room as if that means something, tell me when you break 480 during an EIC match with that scope.

If I wanted a NF or a March for my SR I'd have one. Certainly not complaining about what I don't have because I don't have it. For the record I have four NF scopes and a Vortex for my F-TR rifles, so you are correct on one count, I don't mind spending money if I'm getting what I want.

I do think the price for the NF and March SR scopes is high for what they are; however, they have built a scope for a narrow market. Guess it's a wash, they need to make money. If there is another option that performs as well I'd gladly use it. Maybe the HiLux will be a complete dog. Their offerings that I've tried for BPCR certainly were, but I do intend to find out this yr. If I find that in my opinion it is a substandard product I'll express that.

There is a foot of snow on the ground here now. The only practice I'm getting is on my SCATT.

My sling experience is certainly limited, of the 11 matches I shot last yr, only 4 were in a sling. I may never shoot a 480 in an XTC match, with any scope, but I can tell when the problems are equipment (not usually) or shooter (most often) and I can tell when something isn't working for me. The Vortex in an example, some people have gotten good results with the Vortex, but for me the reticle doesn't work.
