march scopes

I got one last year as a trial scope so we could all check it out. It was solid, no surprise, March has a great track record with poi stability. In my opinion it was the best optical performance I have seen from March. It actually was the closest glass to the NF comp that I personally have seen. 40x is a little much on the low end for long range but some guys do not mind, I personally never used under 35x on any of my variables. It was good enough Tom Mousel had me order one for his newest rifle. If this scope fits your needs I think it would be one of the best choices out there. It has the poi stability, and optical quality. The downsides are it does have a pretty short eye relief and it changes when you adjust power. But on the other hand poi doesnt change when you change power like many variables do. We still dont have a perfect scope for what we do but this ones getting closer.
Thank you Alex. I've been told the eye piece takes some getting use to. Apparently, not many of these out there yet. It's hard finding reviews and experienced opinions on it. Thanks again!--Mike

I'd like to hear some reviews of the 40-60 High Master.

I just traded a March 40-60 high master for a nf comp with zero stop a few months ago. Only reason I traded it was that between my boy and wife shooting the rifle this march was on it seemed like it was always off a full turret revolution. And the minimum 40X magnification is hard on a newbie shooter.
I just found it worth trading for the nf comp. Really the only things I had against the March is I thought the glass would be a little clearer on 60 power than it was for what it cost and I didnt like the movement of the eye piece as the magnification was adjusted. Other than that i liked that scope. The tracking and overall construction was great. I like that the turrets had an alignment cog for every 1/8 moa slot. I never noticed a poi shift and I had it on a 300 wsm with and without a brake. I did think that the high master March glass was just a touch above the nf comp on helping with mirage. The turrets and side focus were what I expected from March. I don't think you can go wrong with the 40 to 60 March high master but I also do not see it as being much or any better than the nightforce comp overall. Another factor maybe customer service. I've never had a problem with a March so I can't attest to their customer service, maybe someone else can.

I recently upgraded from a March 36-55 [non Hi Master to a March 40-60 Hi Master, both in the EP Zoom models .

I have owned my 36-55 for about 4 years now and been very satisfied with all aspects of the scope but recently embarked on a new bench rest build so ordered a new 40-60 HM for that rifle.
I won't be selling my 36-55 so this post isn't a platform to promote it in any way.

I have had the Hi Master for a month now so have had a good opportunity to compare the two.

Just a bit of back ground.
I also considered the March HM 48 fix power, the 10-60 HM as well as the 40-60 HM models which will be used exclusively for bench rest.
I always did [and still do] use the maximum magnification as the clarity remains super clear and I prefer the max power sight picture.

The 48 fixed power Hi Master option was a good option being the same dimensions as the scope I have but the option of variable won out.

The 10-60 has a 34 mm tube and 56 mm front lens offering me more lower end magnification than what I have [36] and a brighter scope but for my needs those differences weren't necessarily a benefit to my shooting and optical needs.

That left the 40-60 EP Zoom HM which option. This model is the same size and similar weight as what I have but apparently improved.

All three were similar in price and the small differences wasn't a consideration for me.

Importantly I usually shoot with the aperture reduction cap fitted [ supplied ] as the 36-55 was always well bright enough for my eyes but I found the aperture cap gave me better contrast in certain situations that defined the black target rings in different light conditions.

So the benefits of the 10-60 was of less value in my situation than for most shooters so the 40-60 was my best option.

I had spoken to as many other bench rest competitors that have a High Master and admittedly most were using a 10-60 model and like me some had previously had non HM models as well. They were all very happy and in the cases where they had upgraded they were adamant that the Hi Master models were a improvement over the no HM models particularly with regards to brightness and clarity.

For me the upgrade is a improvement over the non HM model and I appreciate the sharper clarity and and very pleased with the purchase.

I have looked through both the Sigtron 10-50 and 36x , the Weaver T36. the Vortex Golden Eagle and various Night force 55 scopes and for my eyes the March is my best option optically.
In regards to other aspect of scope features, performance and quality I'm no expert when it comes to comparison but I have no complaints with the March products I have been familiar with and am expecting no less in the future.

Thanks for the info. Can you post a link to where you purchased your scope?

Marchoptics.com was Bullets.com's site, Shiraz's sites.

You should visit the official March website at www.marchscopes.com
There you will find a list of places from which you can order a March scope.

Don @ Long range supply or Nez @ Bamban Barrel Barn are two good places to order exactly what you want.
