I traded for a rifle on this board. the markings on the rifle ar LG or Hg Baucher. Any one help me on who this is? The trigger is a custom stamped by him and the barrel is supposed to be a Hart but not marked by Hart. The receiver is a Win Mod 70 with Ser No 42XXXA. Supposedly a pre 64 but that is a strange Ser No Maybe stamped by the builder.

Post some pics and we can tell you if its a pre-64 or not. As far as the rest im sure he was a guy that installed barrels back in those days. If he used a hart blank there would not be any markings from hart

Pre-internet, most craftsmen and gunmakers were literal unknowns except to their clients. Those that got a mention in the rags at that time gained some recognition, those lucky enough to have a regular column achieved some degree of fame. The average gunsmith though was known mostly to their locale and their clients.

H.G. Baucher was a gunsmith/experimenter of some renown during the 1950s early 1960s. Beyond this, there is little written except by those folks who want information about the rifles he built.
