Selling Our Public Lands

You want to see a more common sense to this " selling public lands" listen to Glen Becks analogy on it. In my opinion its alot more common sense than alot of the media approach riling people up.

For those that slept thru some classes at school......

I’m against the selling of public lands, if this goes through we’ll have oil and gas drilling in every national park and along every coast line. This isn’t about residential this is big oil campaign money getting their back room promises fulfilled.

Most basic government ideas (think social security) are excellent in theory but the implementation makes it a disaster. I walk through growths of mature white pine planted by the government (CCC = Civilian Conservation Corps) here in our Red River Gorge, KY. There’s not a single animal that I know benefits from this. The trees are in rows. It’s a farm! The timber could be sold creating a more beneficial wildlife habitat and the money could be used to provide a much needed law enforcement to cut down on the excessive littering by visitors. I’m sure it’ll be lost to a careless campfire someday.

I’ll never get my return on the social security I’ve paid in especially compared to my IRA’s but I won’t have to watch some elderly starve to death from lack of their savings either.

I have to put my faith of national security in the government’s hands because I have no other choice. But I’m sometimes more worried of my government than someone’s else’s.

I do think some government land should be sold. Paying interest on debt when you can sell assets is ridiculous. Too bad the implementation would be even more ridiculous.

The Congress will never address the national debt . It would be to painful. Government spending is about a elected official re-election,past time for term limits ?
Where would the stock market be if we had no 401k or I R A ?? The fix is in for now.

As of this morning, the sale of federal lands has been removed from the bill.
There is already federal land and buildings being sold all the time.
Google GSA theres listing right now that have been there all along, its just like anything federal gov it just takes forever to do.

This is a perfect example of why real estate is a great investment. -- They aint making any more of it. Sooner or later, even a worthless patch of scab-rock in Stinking Desert Orevada starts looking valuable to somebody.
A lot of us westerners have been pretty spoiled, living our lives with thousands of square miles of public lands nearby for a playground. Now, the gummint needs MORE MONEY for various reasons, and that land is starting to look like a bank account.

A lot of these lands used to be money making property with timber and grazing contracts, but lately, logging and cows have become evil and destructive and need to be done away with.

The companies who used to make a fortune on timber, also provided a fortune in timber revenue that got spent on roads, schools, recreation, etc. When it came to an end (for various and often stupid reasons) many small rural towns - and ranches - and mills - dried up and died.

Now the patch of timber that provided thousands of board feet of lumber, several jobs, and a great place for many hunting camps and other recreation, is likely to be sold off to someone with several million bucks, and a hobby herd of buffler. jd
I read somewhere that the population of humans on Earth will double in 100 years. Can you imagine how that's going to affect land and resources? You think we have problems now.

I don’t have cable tv, we gave that up a while back. It’s really simple enough to just use a pair of rabbit ears to get plenty of programs to watch ( local news of course ) for weather and basic headlines but other than that I’m watching Rawhide and Maverick ..lol
Don't forget Gunsmoke. That may only be available on cable though.

Blackrock and private equity will buy wilderness land in sweetheart deals. Build shitty RE on it. Worst part will be when Govt sells prime vintage buildings in DC and Govt will become renters, instead of owners. This is never a good deal. Very glad the push to sell airports and infrastructure a few years ago fell by the wayside. I DO see the boogieman in these efforts to sell Govt land to private business. I don't have a problem w responsible timber cutting.

Theres a big difference between selling and leasing.
Private lands that have the mineral rights are way easier to develop and get wells producing its why N.D. blew up about 15 years ago and Horizontal drilling.

We've been selling " public land" land for along time its just the media and certain groups want you to believe Parks, Monuments and other land was gonna be sold.
Wasn't the state government trying to get Canyon Lands in Southern Utah ? I agree there is a lot of hype but there is some truth to it. In Az. there is plenty of State Land that is there for that purpose without the Federal Government getting involved but it was the State government trying to take federal land and was stopped by the Supreme Court. Either way both want it for the revenue. The federal government stepped in to save Canyon Lands. https://www.cbs42.com/news/politics...l-of-public-land-from-the-federal-government/ If the states get control of the land, they can sell it to the highest bidder for anything to bring money to the state for anything, development, mining or grazing etc. and the west will never be the same without it's open space.

For some strange reason we sell our oil and natural gas to foreign country's ? Probably import oil from others ?
