Sellier & Bellot Primer Test

John Barsness in the latest Handloader Magazine did a nice test of the LR and Sr primers from Sellier & Bellot. In a wide variety of cartridges and other primers (none of which were Russian though) they gave consistently lower pressures a la Tula/Wolf/PMC.
Anyone else have experience with them in match loads?

No Exrience but locally they are the cheapest to buy, so I bought a box (1k) of LR a while ago and I keep asking myself why I haven't tried them yet

Proof is on the target, so we'll try them eventually.

I bought them from cabelas when I was in the store they were inexpensive . I got the standard 5,3 LR BOXER.
I assume that is the standard LR primer. I used them in a 6XC Norma Brass. New case they went in easy. they were also deep in the pocket. I fired a few for testing and had a low SD and ES with them but they are TOO SMALL for me to use.
after firing my normal loads 2 to three firings they will not stay in a case. LOOSE!...I have used fed 210M, cci 200, cci BR2's. and all of them will stay in a case with 7-8 firings on them..I have good success with all three primers I listed and have quite a few of each but prefer the cci BR2's. I don't know about there quality control but the primers I have are TOO SMALL to be of much use other than a new case. does anyone have any experience with these primers ? and is what I have found Normal? Or Did I get a poor batch..I am sure I could mic them and they are smaller than a standard LR primer.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Too bad! Had hopes for them. I assume if they won't fit Norma they probably will not fit Lapua either. Rats.

Don't assume that they won't. The fit a little looser in my LR primer Lapua brass...but no where near close to leaking or blowing out. I have no flattened primers with the S&B when the BR-2's don't flatten. This is after 3 firings on the S&B. Get a box of 100 and check them out.

I use the SP in the RWS 45 ACP brass. I haven't seen any difference on the target from Tula SP.

I would say looking at the chart I have the wrong LR primers. I have the 5,3 LR and they are too small to use for my loadings. It looks like there is a 5,3 LR SE and I am thinking that is the primer I need but I know nothing about these primers but looks like got a brick of ones that are useless to me. maybe the SE's are larger and would be great.

I have shot the ones I have and they will fall out the back of a Norma 6XC case on the second or third firing...Yes fall completely out...I can load cci 200's, fed 210m's and cci br2's and they still fit tight so they are just smaller primers.

That's all I can say. is my experience. But I have no idea...I wonder if anyone has the SE's and can mic them I am quite sure I can mic them and they are smaller than a standard LR primer..

I mic'ed a cci br2 at .211 wide and .127 tall
S&B 5,3 LR at .2099 wide and .1259 tall I find it hard to believe that that would make that much difference...I will try and load some more...but I what I have loaded so far was no good..I would like to use them.

I run my 105 VLD's at 3,150 FPS
my 115 VLD's at 3,100 FPS out of my 6XC's and load the cci 200,210m's and cci BR2's and have no problems with loose primer pockets.. But I am hard on the brass I get 10 to 12 loads..i guess if I ran 2,800 FPS I may not have a problem..But yea that is not what I do..

I use the SRP in my p-dog loads and have had no issues at all, ran over 15k of them so far.
Has not matter what brass I stick them in & that's every brand you can think of, all snug like any other SRP

Called tech guy at S&B in Minn, he measured the LR primers at .2095", I got .210" for the BR2s and 210Ms & Rem 9.5s, the Tulas I have measured .2105", they fit nicely in my 6 Creed brass.
