Seeking suggested fireform load for 6ppc

6and7mm

I may need a 12 step program to break this hobby

Using a BAT SV and new Lapua 220 Russian brass, with 65gr bullets. Seeking advice for fireform load with VV N 133 powder and Fed 205 match primers. Chamber = 6ppc with .262 neck
Would 27.0 grains be viable, or should I reduce the load?

Thanks!

Thank you, Tim. I appreciate your reply.

I have just entered the world of the 6PPC (also a BAT Action built by Clarence Hammond) and that is sound advise. I also have a .262 Neck, so I assume that you have turned the Lapua 220 Russian Brass or bought some that is pre-turned.

My mentor did and experiment and the case capacity of the 6PPC after fire-forming a .220 Russian is about 18% more. So with powders like 133 and LT-32 (my preferred powder now, it is virtually impossible to over charge. It is also recommended that you somewhat jam the projectile into the lands to get consistent pressure.

I have yet to do all this, but have 150 cases ready to start. I am only waiting for some less expensive bullets to use for the fire-forming (actually free) and saving my Berger 64.5 grain Column projectiles that I have. I am going to use my Chargemaster once I get a setting that fits the case and then just throw the charges. After Fire-Formed I will not be so cavalier.

Where are you located? I am looking for some people to shoot short range bench rest with.

Enjoy, Bob

Just fireformed a bunch of ppc brass myself. I like N133 too much to waste it on fireforming, so I used 26.5 grs. H322 - an old BR powder

My first venture into the 6ppc and started off with N133. Although I'm new to the 6ppc I'm not new to fire forming and tried fire forming with 9 grains of Trail Boss powder And a 60 grain Sierra spitzer. It appears to have worked well with the added bonus of being able to fire multiple fire forming loads without heating the barrel up.

I might be going down the fireforming path later this year as I have 150 Lapua 220 Russian pieces of brass. I'm assuming that you gents expanded then turned the necks @ .262 first and then fireformed?

yes that is correct, turned to 85/1000 thickness after expanding. Need about 2/1000 clearance on the loaded round.

Thanks for the reply. Haven't made up my mind whether to fireform what I have, 220 Russian, or pedal them and buy turn key 6PPC.

Great idea if it formed the case well.
