I use 8-1/2” x 11” targets I print on heavy white paper with just the X, and 10 rings for 600 Yards, and a few more rings for 300 yards. I add an orange 1” dot at the center. With these targets, I can see shots most of the time at 300 yards with my rifle scope set as low as around 40X. With the scope at 55X, I may ‘detect’ a group of shots at 600 yards, but very difficult to see individual shots.
Bottom line –
For practice shooting, I use a Caldwell Target camera at 600 yards, and have used it once at 1000 yards – the camera works great.
At matches, I set my scope at 55 and may have to turn it down to as low as 25 depending on the mirage. The score is reported by the target crew with spotters and score markers on the paper target for each shot (F-Class), which are easily seen with any scope with 20x power or so. If electronic targets are used, the target, points of impact, and score are displayed on a smart phone or tablet.
Good luck!
