Seeing bullet holes at 300 yards with old eyes

I have been lucky in that at 75 this month, no cataracts. But seeing 6mm bullet holes at 400 and 500 yards has been a challenge. I found that if I set up my rifle scope to shoot without glasses I can see holes better.I quizzed my eye doctor about and he said every piece of glass you add no matter the quality, it degrades from trying to do what we want to do......spot bullet holes. Now I realize we live in a nanny world so you who feel you need to tell me how bad it is and you must have protective coverings on your eyes, I am an adult I will assume my own risks. You want to eat 200 grams of saturated fats a day, which lots of YOU do , it's your choice, have a couple beers then drive home, have a cigar or a chew.....we are adults, we can assume the risks we desire, so stow it. Back on topic, I find glasses a detriment.

What do you do if the venue that you are shooting at requires "mandatory" eye protection ?

Couldn’t figure out how to get the text in the above photos, but.
they are from target camera from 500 yards, yes that is a fly on the white steel.

glad I am not the only one using piece of glass, no glasses in the way. although my eye doctor one time told me he thought it may help to shoot with corrective lenses. i guess it depends on the amount of correction available in the scope?
i find itdepends if your scope can be adjusted enough to make up for your eye defeciences. im still trying to figure this out. sometimes i see the dot and target very clear- other times not so clear and sometimes two dots. sometimes seems like the contact helps other times it makes it worse. ect ect. if it works best without anything on a certain day thats what happens.

But they sure are great when practicing, during load development, and the instant feedback is priceless when learning how to read wind/call shots!
For sure, but only if your using flags. Otherwise your just getting feedback on your guessing game.

I have had cataract surgery that has been great for me. Still need reading glasses. Even with a good backing on targets I can’t see bullet holes at 300 yards especially when there is some mirage. Using Nightforce scopes. The Dr. said my shooting eye could use a small correction with glasses. Most of my competitors can see their holes. It seems to me if your parallax and focus are set for your eye, you should see as good as possible. Would glasses even help? Anyone had this experience?
Side note- Dr. recommended good lubricant eye drops the day before and the day of shooting. He said when you get excited tear production goes down, eyes dry slightly and some blurriness occurs.
I was on a squirrel hunt yesterday, using a few rifles I haven't shot in several years, one also wearing a Nightforce - the other a Sightron. I had to re-set the focus and, like you, still had issues with getting the fine detail that was once so easy. I went to my truck and pulled out a few pairs of cheap eyeglasses I have stashed in the glove box over the past several years. They were of different power. One was 3/4x, one 1x, etc. I tried wearing each of them and re-setting the focus and parallax. That was worthwhile, as one of them made everything much better. Since your doc said you could use some extra power - I'd pick up a few inexpensive dime-store jobs and try them out just for shooting, if nothing else.

I know this is an old post but Winston Churchill couldn't have said it better.

I just picked up an new pair of glasses. Glass. Plastic lenses do you no favor. Glass lenses make things brighter, to my eyes.

Alcon “Puremoist”
I was getting ready to say "contact lens", I've quit ordering glasses and at 71 I use readers with or without contacts in just different strength. I'm not going to recommend brand because our eyes are so different but get your point of being "moist"!!
