Seating Depths for the VLD's

Because of magazine length restrictions with my short action min sami spec 7saum I was not able to jam the 168 vld's and have a repeter. After some testing I'm jumping them .100 and making one ragged hole groups at 100yrds. Shot a 3'' group at 500yrds with 4 out of 5 under 2'' off a bypod and a wobbly portable shooting bench.

Rcerro,
You can use a long action for a short action cartridge. Most of the time this will allow you to seat your bullets into the lands and still feed from the mag. Just something to keep in mind for your next build. Brian Brown.

I am having a 30-06 built for the 210 hybrids. Krieger barrel expected to arrive Jan-Feb. Will be interested to learn what works best for you but I prefer to avoid jamming the bullets.

One way to address that problem is by using a conventioal boat tail bullet. Many of them have long bearling surfaces and the overall length is much less than a VLD or Hybrid. Most of them like to be jumped anyway and some have plenty of accuracy and BC to get to 500 yards with good energy. I went through this problem with a friend's 308 and found the Sierra GameKing to be an excellent solution. I don't know what is available in 7mm, but there should be something with similar proportions.

Hi Bill.
I think the 30-06 will get any of the Hybrids to at least one node up versus the 308. I will start with the 308 because there is the F-T/R class where it is one of the required cartridges under the rules whereas the 06 would automatically put me in the F-Open class. But all of the playing I've done in QuickLoad suggests you can get performance comparable to some of the short mags with the 06 and the Hybrids. For F-Class it would be hard to compete using the big 30 Hybrids against 7mm short mags without going all the way to a 300 WinMag, BooBoo, or such. Maybe too much recoil. I'm sure someone will try that and let us know.
Happy Holidays.
