seating 105 hybrids

Starting a test of 105 hybrids in a 6 BR. I have been searching for any input on a good starting point for Berger 105 hybrids, (Jump or jam? ) I have been thinking about jumping initially but there isn't a lot of info that I can find.

I jump them. Start out around ten thousandths and maybe out a little farther.
Also found the Hybrid to shoot better in 7.5 twist barrels for both 6BR and 6 Dasher. But that is just my finding and wouldn't expect everyone to see it the same.

In my 28 in, 8 twist 6mmBR I found that once I got as close as .015 to the lands, groups tightened up considerably and stayed tight all the way to .010 in the lands. Big wide node!

Edit to correct from .020 to .010 in the lands. Sorry for the brain fart, guys.

I'm right there with you. My 8 twist bbl likes 105 VLDH .025 off. My 7.5 twist likes 105 Hybrid .010 off.

I have found that my 6BRs have consistently liked the 105s jammed 10. My dasher is the same way. They usually shoot pretty good jumped or jammed but marginally better with a good jam.

I start mine .015 off a soft touch . Working backward from there . When my ES stablize at low number . Then I find how long of movement I have . Then I start loading with deepest number . Then as my throat wears
The Es will stay the same.
Also I tune with a RAS tuner . Larry

I've found them to shoot well jammed hard, jammed lightly, touching and up to .015 off. The amount of neck tension you use will play a role in this. Key thing with the Hybrids is you need to sort them. Every box of 500 I've sorted has significant variances in bearing surface, seating stem to ogive, etc. Do a good job sorting them, place them in sub lots and they will perform well if you do your part.

Good Shooting

Rich

Try starting .003 off touch and continue to increase the jump in .003 increments. My suggestion is you do your initial SD testing at 100 yds with low winds. You can then fine tune when you find the most promising SD.

Whatever Seating death you find that works I would suggest testing that load a couple more times on different days to make sure it still holds tight, that goes for any bullet when tuning really. My own personal experience with Hybrids in a BR was they shot great one day not so great the next, they did have a wide jump node from @lands to 25jump.

Cheers Rushty

I've shot 'em 0.020" off, know folks shooting cleans @ 600 yards with 'em anywhere from 0.060" off (!!) to just touching.

Rushty's right though; you find something you think works, try it again on a couple different days to be sure.

Otherwise, I think Mr. Litz's Hybrid designs are pretty forgiving no matter the diameter.

My testing with a 6mm BR Norma shows that the 105 VLDH (hunting) bullets shoot best with a .010" jump and the 105gr Hybrid bullets do best with a .005" jump. But that's just my gun.

I think careful testing is the best way to find out. I prefer to find a good charge weight starting with a .010" jump and then test seating depth. Others do the opposite. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

I've only shot them in one rifle, but I could have saved myself a lot of load development had I ran a seating depth test first. Once I figured out they wanted to be .030 off, just about every charge I fired shot very well. I don't know what your rifle will like, but I think you're wise for testing seating depth first.
