Seal on Powder Bottles: Keep It?

Clancy

For the last 20 years, I’ve been able to keep the seal that came on the bottles, but I tore one up pretty bad and decided to chunk it and just use the seal in the cap.

I just wondered how important that is and if I’m the only weirdo that kept them.

Several brands don’t even have a seal. Are any of them actually air tight?

What do y’all say?

I use wax paper to seal the cap back
That’s a good idea, may even do it.

I put a couple of layers of plastic wrap on it for now. Normally I wouldn’t care, but it’s a jug of H4895 and I probably won’t ever buy another as I’ve swapped to Vihtavuori so I’d like to have it sealed up. I only opened it as part of my periodic powder safety check.

In the past I have used electrical tape in the same way

Does any air ever push out?
I have never put much tho in to it, but one would think that threaded plastic cap with a seal of its own would be sufficent.
I tested this yesterday by squeezing the bottle and screwing the cap on, and it would take it 8-12 hours just to pull enough air in (under vaccum) to decompress the bottle.

So, I think the caps work pretty well.

But, since this is Hodgdon and will probably be worth a new car someday, I’m going to use the wax paper suggested by Rick Smith. The plastic wrap was bad about tearing when I put the cap on.
