Scrape the Chamber?

I bought a High-End ($500)Aftermarket Barrel (shall remain nameless for now) from a Barrel Manufacturer.
After installation the barrel shot bad groups.
I returned the barreled action to the Barrel manufacturer.
They said they would ""scrape the chamber just a bit"",
to see if that would help solve the accuracy problem.
What does that mean?
How will that help an accuracy problem??

Sure he didnt mean scrap the chamber, you know cut it off and redue the chamber job.

I'm quoting the email response i recieved from the barrel manufacture.
this is an AR-15 barrel.

If it was a misspelling, what would "scrap the chamber just a bit" mean???

I suggest you call the manufacturer and ask them what it means.

here lies the problem.
Communication with the Barrel manufacture is practically impossible.
I've emailed and phoned about a half doz times,
no responses.
And they have my barreled upper.

I don't know what kind of barrel you bought that cast $500 because my Kriegers, Shillen and Hart barrels cost $350 on the high side, there all reputable barrel makers, may be hard to get into direct contact with them but they have always been good about returning calls and emails. If they have possession of your short little $500 ar barrel and upper and you can't get them to answer your calls or emails I wouldn't be wasting my time on here I would retain a good Lawyer!!

The word SCRAPE and chamber doesn't go together in my world
Wayne.

A Custom Prechambered AR-15 with a Matching Bolt with eat up $500+.
Thanks for the advise Bozo_, But A good Lawyer would cost even more than the barrel.

Just out of curiosity how bad were the groups?

I hate this company is treating you like this but one thing, in this sport, I've been impressed with overall is that most of the manufactures seem to be honest and good for their word. They may be slow as all get out but a lot of times slow and quality run hand in hand.

I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving. Brian Brown.

Just a thought: How do you setback & rechamber an AR barrel without changing the required location of the gas port hole that was previousely drilled in the top of the barrel? I've had AR uppers rebarreled with Krieger 1-7.8's, the work done by Frank White, Campass Lake, and their cost was in the $500 price range.

2"-2.5" ,5-shot groups @ 100yds, shot with a 6.5-20x50LR Leupold from a BR Pivot Bench, with a BR Rest.

The bigger issue is the barrel extension. You can modify the throat area, but you can't rechamber an AR barrel. Once the Barrel extension is installed. TDC is determined and the gas port is drilled.

Rechambering an AR barrel would be totally impractical.... and it'd be cheaper to replace the barrel completely.

I thought it was a standard rifle barrel as the OP didnt say it was for an ar-15.You are correct as to the barrel having to be changed.

I cannot immagine what that might mean. I have e-mailed 2 barrel suppliers (the barrel man, and sharpshooterssupply) and one took 2 weeks to get back to me and one took 4! Seems barrels are onlyfor the patient. However I own an Olympic arms Ar-15 with a heavy factory barrel, (one of the cheaper AR-15's out there, but i like it) and I will make plinking rounds that accidentally shoot 3/4 MOA. 2.5" is crazy! just curious, what weight bullet and what rate barrel twist did you try?

thanks for everyones' comments & opinions.
I'm witholding more Details on this Barrel & Make,, giving the manufacture a chance to respond to the inaccuracy problem.
The barrel is a AR-15 Stainless Steel Cut-rifled 6.5 bore, not a .223.
I Just didn't know what ""scrape the chamber a bit" meant is the reason for posting my question.
I'll post all The details once this is resolved.

maxscm,

I applaud you for not bashing the company the minute you hung up the phone. Your at least giving them a chance to make it right. I'm sure that's not easy because your probably pretty ticked off. Anyway Good luck. Brian Brown.

Perhaps they are talking about breaking the edge of the chamber with a scraper? They might feel a sharp edge on the chamber is damaging the bullet during cycling and causing inacuracy, WAG on my part.
