scrap brass prices ?

The wife and I got about half done this morning and done for the day. So far 98 lbs. sorted. Got out more loaded ammo. The pile on the right is a mix of .22 rimfire shells with some loaded rounds, lead bullet pieces and fragments of clay targets.

I need 3/8" screen to sift with. Can't locate any around here. The 1/4" picks up too much crap, the 1/2" lets the abundant 9mm pass through.

I sort a lot of brass (I went through 16 five gallon buckets yesterday). For relatively small quantities like this I recommend getting the Shell Sorter trays that sit on top of 5 gallon buckets. There is a tray in the set that will keep the 9mm and let the smaller items pass through.

DSC03446.JPG Thanks for that tip, ordered and on the way.

We finished up this morning. Net brass weight was 162.5 lbs. Waste metals and some sand was 19 lbs. The other stuff like bullet pieces, rimfire brass and clay target chunks was 54 lbs. I will melt out that lead this winter outside.

Now the sad news. A call just now to my scrap dealer for current brass prices dropped to $1.30 lb. Oh well, still good money for little time invested. We will make the 50 mile trip tomorrow hauling 290 lbs.

Update....went today instead. $373.00 out the door. Wife said $100.00 would make her happy. Me gets the rest.

I will have to check scrap yards down in the Louisville KY area and see if they will take my brass. I currently have 5 buckets full of bad brass that i need to get rid of.
