Scott Parker Scale Tuning

Decidedly low tech, but works quite well.
The piece of blue tape is for eye alignment. It eliminates parallax issues with the magnifying lens. A single kernel of extruded medium burning powder moves the pointer from eclipsing the zero line to resting at the top of it. These scales settle out in 4 seconds. I too use and recommend the Lee Perfect powder thrower, the old school plastic one. You can pay 10-20x the amount for a thrower and not get better performance.

The next tip is to combine the balance beam with the cheapie Lee perfect powder thrower (30 bucks)! It dumps measures more consistently spot on than any of the others. Stick powder is its forte. This is why I am able to process so fast because I need very little trickling to put my needle on the zero. And half the time the Lee thrower is dead on and needs no trickle. Amazing. As they are so inexpensive I have one set up for different charges. I dont know how long they last at this point, as the patented wiper blade is plastic, but I dont care.
I need to pick one up, stick powders in my RCBS measurer is a PIA.

For my Pistol loads I have two systems one uses the dipper trickle up method.

And they do have the "rock crusher"...... sad to say but China will put the company circling the toilet bowl. And I have some Green on my bench. Just sad!
Cecil,
I meant to say their powder measurer sucks for any kind of powder!…. Not that all there equipment is bad, I also like there presses and a few of there products. There hand primer sucks and so does there powder dispenser

No worries at all. My experience with RCBS customer service (for presses) has been steller. I worry this will fade as China rots the company from within. To me RCBS has focused at startup reloaders and supported them with great customer service. RCBS rebuilt my Jr2 press for free I had purchased it used it had a broken handle they fixed it free of charge. the Jr2 handles all my dirty work its a very good press. I just hate that as Americans we loose another company to China!

Fourth went out today
Hi Scott!!! My 4yo grandson knocked my Ohaus 10-10 off my bench and must have stepped on the beam. It snapped in two. I have had this scale for over 30 years, and love it!! I'm totally bummed out! I called RCBS in hopes they had a 10-10 beam to replace it. They were no help. I emailed Ohaus and they promptly replied that I should contact their "Dealer Laboratory Instrument Specialists". I did so, and no luck there either. Soooo... I'm hoping that you have a 10-10 or 5-10 beam laying around doing nothing that I could buy from you?

Another option, if you haven't checked, ebay has used scales and sometimes pieces and parts that might help you out.

I called. Will check inventory.

Please do not patronize the "scale breaker" on eBay that is always selling scale parts (presumably by breaking up functional or whole scales).

I have a complete 10-10 setting on a shelf not getting used at all.... couldn't get it to zero & repeat like it should
not sure if the agates are worn out..don't know
I wanted it because I had one from my first rcbs kit in the late 70s and liked it.
If you think it might work for you it's yours.

Hi Larry... Scott is sending me a beam. Maybe between the two of them I can put together a trust worthy scale??
