Scope zero for my friend

Peebles, that whitetail ammo is crap.
Lil brother got some for his 270 to sight in,
I believe a shotgun can shoot a better group.
It was giving up 6"groups at 100. JMO
I've shot that crap out to 600 yards with good results. Sometimes a rifle may not like a certain ammo, doesn't mean all of that type of ammo is crap.

OP, try another scope, maybe some different ammo. Could be the rifle itself. Lots of parts to the system.

I bought an Axis in 6.5 Creedmoor. Shoots good for a $400 gun.

Buddy bought the same in 22-250. Shoots so good, he is going through ammo faster than I can manufacturer it for him. :D I told him he'll need a new barrel by the time he is done with PD and jackrabbit season next year. After telling him the price of a decent barrel, he said he'll buy another Axis.

I also have friends that won’t listen. Just think if he had bought a Tikka. Maybe in July or August... people ask me if they cam use my shooting range. If it’s within two weeks of deer season, I say too bad. Of course my shooting range and hunting blind are very close.

I have no real problem with savage in general its what my f open rifle was. But this package deal axis is cheap and sometimes you get what you pay for. Im not counting it out yet, but...

True that.
Some do, some dont, some will, some wont!!

Peebles if the federal dont work, maybe try some nosler loaded with accubonds.
Trued their ammo in wifes rifle just to get the brass. Shot 1/2" groups at 100, under 2" at 300.

Found federal premium really hot in the two bars - one 270 and a 3006 I’ve hunted with for years. I load for the 3006 but found Hornady frontier shot really good- not called frontier anymore think it’s Called hornady custom now i believe. I bought several on sale for 270 so I’ve never loaded for it. Most consistent factory ammo I’ve found for hunting.

I helped a friend in South Dakota zero his rifle at an indoor range. I was there on a business trip and he lives in another state but drew a tag and has a daughter there so he can store the rifle there. The rifle is a new Tikka with a new major brand scope on it. The range was only 25 yards and provided a wobbly table and wobbly bags to shoot off of. Still, at 25 yards, you should be able to shoot in 1 hole. We calculated the 25 yard zero and I'm pretty sure we got that right.

There was some parallax issue as the scope wouldn't focus fully inside 50 yeards. Our groups were pathetic--perhaps 1" at 25 yards and his groups were different POI than my groups.

Fast forward 3 weeks. He got a shot at a deer at 100 yards and blew apart a sapling just over it's back.

I told him he needs to bring the rifle out to California where we can go to a real range and i'll get it dialed in for him.

You generally get out of it what you put in to it. Hope he learned that lesson.
