Scope suggestion for 50 BMG...

In 1989, Jack Davis and I each got a Leupold Mark 1 Ultra 16X scope that was made for the Navy to be used on their .50 BMG rifles. These scopes were purchased privately as an over order on the scopes that the Navy ordered. We were told that if we ever broke them that they could not be repaired as the lenses had been glued in. The intent was to use them on the Barrett 82 which kicks in two directions like an air rifle. The scopes also had to pass the Navy's 10' drop test. My scope has a duplex cross hair. I used it for many years on my .300 Win. Mag. 1000yd. prone gun. Later on I put it on my Barrett 99 single shot in .50 BMG. I have to say that it has never missed a beat. The tracking is spot on. I still have that scope. It is now on a M1A sniper rifle that is a lot of fun to shoot. There is a large, thick book written on the .50 that has several references to that scope being used by the military. I just don't remember the name of the book to mention as a reference. A standard rifle only kicks to the rear, however that big clamshell brake may give enough forward thrust to cause the scope that you choose to come apart. Look at what an air rifle does to most scopes. "Danger, Will Robins!"

I have 3 SWFA scopes ther the best under a grand scopesi have seen .
I have a 20 X on my .50 bolt gun. It has over 150 rounds thru it and never had any issues.

In last two weeks I've dropped a small fortune into 50 BMG reloading gear. I've decided to buy a Nightforce scope, but unsure what model. My short term goal is competing in 1000 yard FCSA matches, but long term goals require the scope/base combo zero from 500-1760 yards.

I'm hoping a 30 MOA base from Armalite for my AR-50 and a Nightforce scope will accomodate this goal. I'm not familiar with the Nightforce line but the NXS and ATCAR caught my eye due to being robust in design and having a large range of internal adjustment.

To muddy the waters, I want a Larue or similar quick detach mount, or two bolt at worst, that will allow me to mount this scope on another gun. Likely a 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 Rem for PRS and DM events. Any suggestions on particular Nightforce models or quick detach mounts would be greatly valued.

a 10 x 42 NXS will serve you well . 1 mile shots should be in the mid 60 MOA range .

Thanks man. Spoke with Armalite and 30 MOA base is not in stock, and they don't know when they will have more. I'm going with Nightforce 20 MOA Unimount, which on my stock 15 MOA base will give 35 MOA. Which with a 100 MOA scope will allow zero from around 100-1900 yards. Will put SWFA 20x on it for time being and save some nickels for Nightforce later.

Many years ago I competed nationally with the 50 at 1000 yards. The only scopes that would hold up for me were the Nightforce and Mark 4 Leopold. I turned some lesser scopes into jello.
By the way, stick with the borerider technology.

Greg, a long time ago we conversed about 50's, I'm still playing with mine and helping to infect others like Dan here on shooting 50's.

Dan, I have over 4000 rounds on one of my Leupold Mark 4 8.5X25X50's and 2200 rounds on same but illuminated.

The Lifetime Warranty is the most important feature of any scope used on a 50BMG rifle.

But then, I'm just a newbee here - what do I know.
