Scope selection

I have two Nikon Monarchs and one Leupold rifleman. I'm looking to upgrade a little to the $850 range. I have an opportunity to buy a Steiner SG3 for about half price. Anyone know how it compares to other scopes in that price range ie Zeiss, Swarovski, etc?

You don't describe what type of hunting you do but in that price range, the Nightforce SHV 4-14X woudl be about the best scope for the money.

I will be hunting whitetail deer. I'd also like to point out the Steiner is listed for $800 and I can get it for $400. Would you still go with the Nightforce or the Steiner?

For a hunting scope you would be hard pressed to find a better scope in the $400 range then that great deal your getting on the Stiener, I would say that you could buy with confidence.

I have the Stiener 2.5/10x42 Predator Extreme on my 223. Darn good scope. German parts assembled in the U.S. by Burris. Glass is far better than Leupold IMHO.

Steiner is German for "Tascoe"



Sorry, I heard that several years ago & get a chcukle everytime I hear someone mention Steiner. The only Steiner optics I have ever used was a pair of predator bino's & for the price they were pretty good.

Buy a Leupold and get a great guarantee and a great scope. Need help with the scope? Call their custom shop. Dollar for dollar the Leupold is better than the Nightforce in my view. Leupolds are made in Portland Oregon USA too. And it beats a Stiener all to heck. I just bought another Leupold, this one is a Varmint scope and it is great. Nightforce makes a good scope but they are way over priced. I feel like I have had one of everything although I haven't but have shot with just about every brand and my over all favorite is a Leupold.

Vortex PST.......6-24x50 SFP is what I like.......

4-16x44 HST works well too.....20VT.....
