scope question

any suggestions for a good scope for 3 to 500 yard target
shooting? fine cross hair would be nice with llittle or no
parralex..On welfare so not to much to spend right now.
will consider used as long as it is in good condition...

Buy yourself a Weaver T-Dot, money well spent. I don't think you will get away from the parallex in a scope with decent magnification.

Someone will take an EBT card, shop around for a Schmidt & Bender, I suppose you have ample time. Maybe they can sell you a Marine sniper's cheap.

You guys are nasty. You don't know the man's history and making inferences that he is some kind of "welfare bum" is crude. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I like Burris stuff for hunting and medium-range target. You usually find decent prices, good adjustments, large field of view and reliability with a lifetime warranty.

Watch the want ads on this site for used ones and look around at their offerings so you can select a model you might like. Good luck with your search and good shooting.

I have the Mueller 8-32x44 Side Focus target scope http://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Target-Rifle-Scope-Black/dp/B004689ZWQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441889549&sr=8-1&keywords=mueller+8-32+44+side+focus which I used for about a year in 250yd club matches with a factory Savage 223.

Clear, sharp, and repeatable, light gathering not quite top notch like a 50mm would be; but unless one is shooting under limited light conditions, it's not an issue. I like it enough that I bought another one for my .260 custom from my current year's budget.

Not a Nightforce, but for what you requested, I think you'd like it. I've been on a tight budget myself from time to time, and have had to spread my bucks a bit thin, too.

I bought 6 screw rings http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MV20906?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage and mounted the scope with minimum torque on the ring cap screws. There have been reports of binding internal adjusters when the cap screws are torqued too tight.

Just respect the instrument by using some judgement when torquing down the caps and all should be well. If the scope slips in the rings, just reposition the scope and tighten them a little more.

Note that my rings are extra low rings, chosen because my Ken Farrel 20MOA scope base is rather high to begin with. A more normal mounting setup would probable be better with medium height rings http://www.amazon.com/Millett-Tactical-Detachable-Aluminum-Rings/dp/B003R6L4IG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_200_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=11GRABS3S4P2ZZYN7PAX&dpSrc=sims&dpST=_AC_UL160_SR146%2C160_.

These items I suggest are at the low end of the price range, and some may doubt their usefulness. They work quite well for me and I can't speak for any others.

I also use Bushnell http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ABP4XDO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage for my AR uppers, and my MVP predator 223. When used with a Laser Range Finder http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-1-Button-Operation-Compact-Rangefinder/dp/B004I8U2IU/ref=sr_1_9?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1441893451&sr=1-9&keywords=bushnell+laser+range+finder, this scope is pretty good for getting your first rounds near to on-target.

Cocopuff, Just keep the hog, eat Ramen noodles for a month, cash in some food stamps & step up to a Sightron.

Oh, I see. Social Security is not "welfare". I went through multiple plant closings under the first pres. Bush; know what it's like. Your pension plan should have at least been covered by the PGC (for pennies on the dollar) but corporations find ways to weasel out of that requirement, too. FYI, your former CEO and managers probably made out like bandits. As a worker, don't expect any help from Republican politicians - they're all corporate whores.
At any rate, good used Weaver T-series scopes can usually be found in the Classifieds here. Hawke, Mueller, and Nikko Stirling aren't the greatest ever made, but are credible low-end scopes.
