Scope problems on new build.

The weak place on the Burris is the under size cross bolt. It's an easy fix, just rill and tap to a 10-32 that is .187 and it fits right in a F Class Panda. Use a cap screw and you can torque it to 65 in.pounds and the best part you will never mark your scope..jim

UPDATE!

I've both spoke and emailed back and forth with Ian Kelbly today trying to get to a solution to my issue. He's made me offers to rush thru a new action (spec'ed differently) or a March scope. They're both good options that would eliminate my problem. I'm just not prepared to add the amount of extra cash that would be needed at this time. He's also assured me that the Kelbly rail is indeed a "true" 20 MOA, and that some others actually understate what their tapers really are. That explains why I've experienced what I have.

It appears that currently the only 2 options for my rilfe are to either stick with my 32x NXS (it has sifficient travel) or go with the Burris Zee rings like many have suggested. For now I'm going to stick with the 32x, and will consider purchasing a new Panda action (spec'ed differently ;>) in the future.

This has been one heck of a learning experience for me, and I hope the information shared here saves others from making the same mistakes I made.

Thank you for taking the time to educate us on your problem. I am sure you will help some people planning to build a gun in the future.

9sigman45,
That Blue Lowboy ballard FTR stock by Precision Rifles and tool, and polished Kelby Action is absolutely gorgeous!! Not only that It shoots lights out! It shot awesome last month at 1000yd. Your rifle and the other 2 like it didn't leave much for anyone else to take home last month! I know one rifle is on a Bat, and the other is on a Savage Target action. But all of them are in the Lowboy Ballard FTR stock bulit by Ray Bowman at Precision rifles and tool. Your Kelby was at the top and out shot the Bat. Bottom line you were on the top that weekend, and you done it with Style! I'm glad that I decided to go with the Kelby Panda. I think they are a awesome Action. I think they are right up there beside of Bat! Don't get me wrong the Bat's are just as Awesome! I can barely contain myself waiting on my Kelby Panda and Lowboy ballard stock. Those rifles just flat out shoot.... lights out!!!!!! With another guy and you know who i'm speaking of letting me fire three rounds off from his rifle the Lowboy ballard FTR stock tracks in the bag like nothing else! My Shehane MBR Tracker stock in 6br doesn't come close to tracking like the Lowboy Ballard stock does! I'm sooo...ready to push my current rig back to a back up rifle and start shooting my future rig! It's like being 9yr old again and trying to go to sleep on XMAS EVE waiting on Santa to Call (Ray Bowman) telling me to come pick up my rifle!! Throw that NXS 32x back on the Kelby, or order some Burris Zee Rings have the invoice sent to you and the rings shipped to VA Jim (AKA James Crofts) Have him polish them. They will Bling!!! Did you see the job James done on my 6br barrel and action? I can trim my mustache in it if i wanted too!! James does Dang good work!! The end results for you would be one of the best looking and shooting rifles on the firing line!! As good as that rifle looks, No way would I sell it! It's Gorgeous and shoots just as Dang good! My stock will be in the Black and Yellow. I think I'm going to call it the Stinging Yellow Jacket! My wife is already calling it the other woman lol! ;D ;D Well she picks at me about it anyway, but she really does like the black and yellow Lowboy Ballard stock! (looks) I'm sure it will hammer just like your rifle does! After all Precision Rifles & Tool is building it!!! Hope to see you soon! Take care.

Thanks for the kind words Mark.

My frustrations made me seriously consider selling it, but the results I'm getting on the firing line more than likely will not let that happen any time soon. I'm planning to shoot the July 1st match at Butner with the 32x NXS, then swap over to the 42x - Zee ring combo for the match at the end of July. From there I'll decide what to go with for Lodi in September.

As you get to know me more you'll learn that I'm a bit anal retentive (which is probably good for a reloader/shooter;>), and not being able to finish this rifle exactly as I'd wanted has really worked on me. Hope to see you at the next match. Actually my son will be shooting the GAP that Friday, says he's gonna show me "how it's done". Ofcourse I've told him that once he starts beating me he'll have to start doing his own reloading!

Just shoot the rifle as is! The only limiting factor with your rig is the shooter! I mean that as a compliment! Your a awesome shooter with a awesome rifle! I've seen you in action! You will do well at Lodi! Just slap the 32X back on that Kelby and do what you do best! 10s and Xs my friend! Thats all you need to think! Good luck at Lodi!
