Scope mount for Swed Mauser 94 carbine?

I have a 94 carbine Swed Mauser in 6.5x55 I want to scope and use for deer hunting this season. Question is how would I go about doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peter.

Have someone who as a jig (and knows how to use it!) do the drilling and tapping. I think Leupold makes a 2 pc. base set. You'll need to have the bolt handle either replace or the original handle forged so it will clear the scope during cycling (another job for someone who 'knows how'). The safety will have to be replaced so it will clear the scope, too. Do not be afraid to pay for professional work. Ya' get one shot at drilling and tapping, after that it's "Swiss Cheese" with too many holes in it. You, also, don't want the bolt handle to come off in your hand. And, by all means, you want the safety to be reliable and work as it should. Converting a military action to sporter isn't as 'cheap' as it used to be! I see too many amateur sporterizing jobs on the used gun and pawn shop racks that might have been worth while if they'd been done correctly.

Shortgrass,

Would it be possible to get one that doesn't require drilling and tapping the receiver? I don't want to permanently alter the gun but would prefer something simple I could install.

Thanks,
Peter

As scarce as the Swede carbines are, (much more so than the 96 and 38 rifles) I would leave it as is and try to find another rifle. A Remington Model 7 in 260 would be a close alternative. CZ is another option. I do use one of my Swede carbines though with the iron sites for short range shots in heavy cover for white tail.

Good lord do not drill holes in an m94. Sell the m94 and buy something else to drill holes in or better, buy a used rifle and cut the barrel down.

No need to worry about holes in the receiver, I am not going to alter the receiver at all. This M94 was given to me by my grandfather and it's not going anywhere. I just want to hunt with it but I much prefer scoped rifles.

No impact scope mount for Swed Mauser?

Just saw this discussion.

I've done a couple things with Swedish Mausers (not carbines):

-- Cut down a Weaver 1-piece base to fit into the existing rear sight base, finalized the fit with stock bedding compound and pinned it thru the original sight pin holes, then added a red dot, pistol or "scout" scope.

-- Modified a Williams Guide rear sight to roughly fit the contour of the rear receiver ring (the front part will set over the clip slot), drill a couple small holes in the bottom of the sight and use bedding compound to form a plug down into the clip slot. Really solid if you do it right, but you can take the stock off and knock the sight off from the bottom side with a punch. Will probably need a higher front sight.
