6.5x55 in 94 carbine

Anyone load for a 6.5x55 in Mauser 94? I know they need to be loaded with reduced loads. Would like to hear from some of y'all.

aw shucks, when I saw your title I thought we were gonna get some new blood in a lever action!

The M94 uses the same action as the M96 and M38 Swede Mausers, so I'm not sure what you mean by "reduced loads". Reduced from what? Now it is said that the Norwegian Krags are weaker and thus shouldn't run full-house loads. That said, for mine (once I start loading for it) I'll use a faster burning powder than I do for the M96, since there's an 11" difference in barrel length. That's just preference on my part to burn the powders more efficiently.

140gn bullet, 42-44gn Viht N160 works well. You'd almost certainly get good results from H4831 with the same charge range. Seat any pointed bullet out to the longest COAL that gives reliable feed from the magazine - you'll still be nowhere near the rifling lands. These babies were chambered for long 160gn round nose bullets seated well out.

Thanks Laurie for the info.

Exercion, what I meant by reduced loads I am just not wanting load data that guys are using in their modern guns. I don't want to beat up this Mauser Carbine.

All the load data in the Hodgdon new annual manual is under 46,000 CUP for the Swede Mauser actions. Same for the Hornady manual and Sierra manual. Feed the Swede any slow to medium powder and it will sing a pretty tune. I load all my Swedes to a COAL of 3.050 . This is as long as you can load it and still have it work through the magazine well. I really like Accurate 4350 powder. Max for 140's is 45 grs which is what I use and is very accurate with Sierra and Hornady SP bullets. 46 grs with 120 Sierra or Nosler BT is max but shoots really good. Work up to these load in your rifle.

Ahh very good, I understand completely. I shoot rather a lot of 6.5 Swede, both in my military rifles and a modern actioned F-Class gun, and won't even come close to my heavy loads in the Mausers. Laurie is quite correct, I'd add also the RL-22 works very well. I haven't tried it in the short carbine barrel, not sure you'd get full burn, but worth checking.
