Scope Leveling Problem

I am having terrible problems leveling my new Leuy 30x on my rifle. I have checked all my levels against one another. All are equal. I have a B-Square level on my base. Everytime I put the scope on and put a level on the top turret and level everything the crosshairs look very canted. When I back off and align the crosshairs with the stock the turrets look canted. Mind you I had this scope on the gun before with a two piece mount and it was fine. Everything lined up. The new base is a Ken Farrell, and everything checks out there. Are my eyes going bad or my mind?

Put a weight of some sort on a piece of 1/4" supple rope and place this at 50 yards or so and use this vertical reference to set your crosshairs. My driveway is 250' long and that is plenty. I tie the top of the rope to a handtruck handle and roll this down to the end of the drive.

You have to decide what surface of the action or scope base to set the level on when leveling the rifle. I am going to find or make a piece of flat steel that will slide into the rec and lay on the locking lug raceways.

Thanks!!! I've used this technique before when I had more of a back yard. I just didn't think about it here. I used a hi viz string and plumb bob combo. Worked perfect. Thanks.

The intersection of the cross hairs will track in line with the turrets, so if you align the cross hairs so that they are plumb and level, and the turrets are canted, you are likely to get some sideways movement of your point of impact with a vertical turret adjustment and some vertical with a windage adjustment. There are reports of this as a known quality control defect that needs to be corrected by Leupold. I would give them a call. It is not common, but it happens.
