Scope and reticle in American sniper movie

I was getting all bubbly over the fact that the armor pack upgrades through the different deployments accurately reflected the real life upgrades the trucks were getting and it wasn't just a bunch of shitty Humvee with plywood painted tan and carved to shape.

Read between the lines. Some info on actual military equipment is "classified" ????

<sarcasm>

I guess I would have never guessed there might be any classified specifications considering the security clearance I hold.

<end sarcasm>

With that being said stating better this or that truly does not give anything away. None of us are asking for the technical data on the optical coating or the better metal type and number in the tube metal. Maybe it is just waterproofing since I know for a fact they struggle with it.

My experience in the Army with Army equipment is that they provide you with stuff that is good enough at a "good" price determined by a limited number of suppliers willing to go through the procurement nightmare. I suspect civilians have much better equipment available to them than even the SOCOM folks. Dont get too excitedand over pay because its used by the"Seals" or whoever the current badasses are.

Far as I understand they have higher standards for tracking, they must be tested for a very good tracking standard..

No offense people, but, your security clearance, along with the numerous clearances I have had during my tenure, with a buck or so, will get us a cup of coffee :o

But I'll bet you some donuts to go with that coffee, My rifle will out shoot there's ;) They just pay the big bucks for things to look Military.

They pay big bucks for theirs so theirs will shot good enough to get the job done when outside is so horrible you wouldn't dare leave your house.

Nighforce released a small number of F1s, that were military spec'd, last year. It was said they were mil. contract overruns. They were apparently gone pretty quickly. This thread, from the old SniperHide, answers the questions regarding the availability and build differences. http://forum.snipershide.info/showthread.php?t=215997&highlight=Military+contract+nightforce

As said on box:

These special scopes are a military contract overrun for the United States Army Special Operations Command and are marked ARMY-SPEC F1 on the bottom of the saddle and on the side parallax adjustment.

Environmental Testing

Nightforce M IL-SPEC riflescopes endure an external pressurization test of 40 psi "gauge pressure," simulating a depth of 100 feet to confirm that they exceed current US military specification requirements by up to 25%. In addition, all scopes go through secondary pressure testing at 125 psi to simulate a depth of 300 feet. This type of test is critical to ensure integrity of components against rapid temperature and pressure fluctuations encountered by HALO (high altitude, low opening) troop insertions.

All Nightforce MIL-SPEC rifle scopes undergo twice the amount of impact testing of commercial NXS scopes to ensure they can handle abuse on the battlefield. All scopes are inspected both before and after testing procedures to ensure consistency, repeatability, and integrity of the product at every stage.

Nightforce Milspec Manufacturing Process

Mechanical components on all MIL-SPEC riflescopes are permanently assembled to maintain integrity when exposed to shock and vibration by automatic weapon firing and explosions.

All optical elements are bedded in a proprietary Mil-Spec bonding agent, meaning there is no contact between glass and metal.

Tracking accuracy, reticle tilt, maximum adjustment range, between-power deviation and adjustment backlash are all higher standards on a MIL-SPEC riflescope. They exceed the strict specifications of the NXS product line, and are held to tolerances unmatched by any other scope manufacturer.

Optical Quality and Performance

All MIL-SPEC riflescopes are built using only the best optical elements chosen from each lot received from Nightforce suppliers. All air-to-glass surfaces receive a proprietary broadband multi-coating, exceeding the toughest MIL-SPEC abrasion tests. Resolution, contrast, color correction, and reticle sub tension are maintained at levels up to 5% higher than Nightforce commercial products.

These scopes include a 10 year warranty covering mechanical defects and workmanship in optical and mechanical components. Includes Mil-Spec owner's manual.

Due to the semi-permanent construction of the MIL-SPEC riflescopes, no conversions or alterations will be performed on any of these units.

Maybe it's just because I'm researching nightforce competition scopes right now but the reticle on the sniper rifle in American sniper sure looks like the fcr-1 reticle offered by nightforce. Any one else see this or know what scope and reticle it is?

I agree with your assessment based on whats shown in the trailer.
Funny observation, in the trailer they used a Leupold and NF in the same scene.
