Scope advice.

Hello. My first post on this forum page.
I am just starting to get into long range shooting. I have a RPR in 6.5 creedmor that I need to put an optic on. I will be shooting a maximum of 600 yards. It will only be used for paper and steel. I am not looking to do any competitive shooting yet. I just want a good consistent optic. I would like to spend less than $1500. I know there's a ton of choices out there but I was hoping for a little advice and guidance from some more experienced shooters. Thanks.
 
I have 2- 20X Super Snipers. Have them on a .243 WSSM and a 6.5 Creed. Shoot competively out to 600 yds with them. They
TRACK up and down with no problems. Just ordered a 12X for my yote rifle.
 
I'll second the 20x SS scopes. I shoot silhouette 1 moa targets to 1100 with 6.5 CM & .308. Excellent bang for the buck!!

As far as reticles go, I'm assuming I would only need a simple one. I would probably be dialing in windage and elevation adjustments. Is there any reason to choose something else?

In keeping with the style of your rifle and where that might lead you, a FFP mil Christmas tree would be proper. Bushy DMR and Burris xtr’s are known to be durable , repeatable, and relatively cheap

No reason for anything else when dialing. I hate Christmas tree reticles. So much useless trash in the field of view. A simple floating dot or thin crosshair in the center with small hash marks on the windage posts is all that's needed. Dial elevation and hold windage with the hash marks.

Check out the new 5-25x50 Vortex PST Gen II. You can get it in FFP or SFP. Various reticles in FFP if you want the Christmas tree style. Only one simpler EBR-4 reticle option in SFP configuration (a little trashy, but not too bad). All models come with illuminated reticles and a zero stop on the elevation turret.
My buddy has the new Gen II in SFP. I had my doubts when I first went over to check it out, but I have to admit Vortex did one hell of a job revamping that scope. It's very nice and a LOT of scope for the money. Excellent glass too.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the old Gen 1 PST.

I can recommend good scope. It is ATN X-SIGHT II HD 3-14x day & night smart scope. I found it here. I had a chance to shoot with it and it was so cool! I would definitely like to get them for me!
 
Unless you are shooting targets with standard references...such as rings or standard size objects like a silhouette target .... I would get a reticle that is marked for hold-offs as you may find that you don't always want to dial in your windage or elevation. It is quicker and safer (in regards to dialing the wrong way, forgetting where you are on the dial) to hold off many times. With a simple X-hair/dot reticle you will lose that option on targets of unknown/unsure dimension.
 
I own one Leupold (deer gun) and everything else I have is high end Zeiss or Nightforce.

I’d recommend an SHV or used NXS. There’s also a chance you’ll get super lucky and find a used ATACR.
 
Shooting the 6.5 at 600yd steel will soon become boring, and you will want to try something more challenging. With that rifle, probably not smaller paper targets. So think ahead to what is next in line. Holding windage on steel, a ffp and graduated reticle is best. The Sightron SIII 6-24 is a great value, clear glass, adequate reticle.

I have a Sightron SIII 8-32 that works very well. The adjustments are accurate and repeatable. I don't think it would ever hold you back. Spend the other half of your budget on reloading gear.:)
 
Leupold VX3i LRP 8.5-25x50 TMOA. All the features you and none you don't. Very clear glass, reliable tracking and the simplest zero stop in the business plus well within your price range.

Agree on Sightron glass and tracking. not a big fan of their retical but, it's hard to beat for the dough.
a Member on this site ran one at KO2M couple of year ago. Mine is on a VarTarg.
