Scope advice, please

I am planning n shooting a 6.5 CM, Borden Mountaineer action, Bartlien Barrel, Remington contour, stock undecided.

I will shoot paper out to 600 yds, the limit of our range off the bench. I am in Houston so there is heavy mirage in the summer. I will occasionally hunt with the rifle from a stand. I know that the scopes that I am looking at are way too much for hunting, but there is that one pasture where a 500 yd shot is possible if the conditions are right. Or I might just remove the scope and use a more suitable hunting scope.

I am interested in the following scopes:

1. NF BR 8x32x56- NP-R2 Reticle

2. NF BR 12x42x56-NP-R2 Reticle

3. Sightron 8x32x56 MOA-2 Reticle

Budget is around $1500 or so.



Thoughts on which scope is best for my application?

Any others scope that I should consider in my budget range?

Is 42 power too much in Houston mirage? I know that I can dial down the power if needed.

At 600 yds, will I notice the difference between 32 and 42 on a cool day or cool morning?

NF 12-42X56 is the best scope for the money if you're shooting from a supported position. Adjusting parallax via the objective rather than a side focus knob is cumbersome when shooting prone. You can pretty easily find a very clean used one here on sale here for about $1100. Good luck!

Use my NF 8-32x on my rimfires all the time.
I have the NP-R2™ Reticle which I like just fine. Haven't looked through or seen any of them with the NP-2DD™ Reticle, so I have no opinion about it.

Paper out to 600 off the bench? Sounds like American off I-10.

We have lots of people who shoot F-class to 1000 in Houston with 40X and above on the scope. I shoot at 40X year round. From the 3 that you listed, I would choose #2 NF BR 12-42X56.

I had your mentioned Sightron and thought it was a great scope. The reticle is nice & I think you will appreciate the ability to crank it back to 8 power. Scope choosing can be a bit crazy-making, to say the least. Best of luck............Happy Shooting

Money does not appear to be a limiting factor for you, but save some money for your on-going reloading components and seek a used Sightron 8x32x56.

Yes, Turbulent Turtle, American Shooters. Now that I am retired I will migrate from the 300 yd line to 600 yds.
Just before my wife was wheeled off to the operating room (surgery was successful!), I asked her if I could get a nice scope. She said sure. During her recovery, she looked up the prices on these scopes. Accordingly, she instructed me to asked for forgiveness at church and while she asked for patience.
I am sorely tempted by the NF. My wife said that she could sell it if something happened to me...
