SCISSORS for Cutting Patches to size

Every patch I buy has to be cut to fit my jags for .224 and 6 mm.. I stumbled across these SCISSORS some time back and I absolutely love them.. (Made in Japan NOT China!!)They will cut through a large stack of patches with ease.. I also have another pair for kitchen ( cutting up whole chicken) and other things.. Thought I would share these with you all.. ( I am not a paid advertiser nor do I have anything to do with Olfa)Olfa.JPGIMG_0223.jpegS

Why not make the jag fit the patch. No cutting. Couldn't imagine cutting thousands of patches...
I am in this club - Jags are relatively inexpensive - it is quite easy to size them to match the brand of patches you use.

Simply chuck a jag into a drill mounted in a vice making sure the drill is level. Polish the jag with fine emery cloth. Go slowly, checking with a micrometer frequently until the desired diameter is obtained. For me, this is a lot less painful than cutting patches to size but each to his own.

I've tried buying jags and "off setting" patches.. Seems like every time I purchase patches they are sized wrong for my jags.. I tried to cut patches to size with cheap scissors it is very difficult and hard on hands. Just wanted to share what I found that works for me and hopefully may do the same for you..

I liked the info on a good pair of scissors.
Me too. Olfa makes good stuff. I buy flannel by the yard now because today's patches suck, and vary from batch to batch, even from the same source. You can see through some of them. I use a lot of different sized patches, and I use a lot of patches. Cutting my own let's me get exactly the pressure (resistance)I want, and saves me money.

I use my wifes quilt cutting board and a rotary cutter to cut patches. I buy the material at walmart at 2.97 per yard. fabric stores are 2 or more times the price. Buy the 100 percent cotton flannel. the material pictured is green because they were out of white, but the color doesnt matter. it still shows copper and carbon. the quilting board has measurements and you can cut sizes for any caliber or jag. you can cut a gigantic bag of patches in minutes. The guilting cutting board and cutter you can get at walmart too at the best price. If you clean multiple barrels and shoot often you will save big over time to cover the cost of the cutting board and rotary cutter.I have saved a lot of money over the many years. hope this helps.
This is the way....

Looks like a lot more work than needed.
I just use the same jag and fit the patch for the caliber.
No need to cut. Have 3 different size patches for what I'm shooting.
Pro Shot flannel here also.
Problem I have is manufacturers (pro shot being one) change the size slightly (or the cutting die?) And/or the thickness of the patch, and label it the same.

So I thought I found the perfect patch and perfect size, only to find out I'm back to the drawing board when I ran out of my 1000 pack.

cutting patches are not for everyone but i like doing it and it saves me lots of money. To some that are on a budget it may help, but cutting your own patches is not wrong. I put this out there to hopefully help some people. For the shooters that dont like it, just dont cut your own patches its that simple.
I don't think anyone said you were wrong but tried to offer a better way. Loosen up those shorts.
