SCHOOL ME --OPEN SIGHTS--IN COMPETITION

One of the first forums where I actually see teaching and not silly replies.. I miss my 40x
Exactly! I love this site and the great folks here--so helpful
I look dumb sometimes asking questions but in the last couple of years I have learned how to do a LOT of things from advice gained here.
Thanks again to everyone on Accurateshooter

Time for you to meet "Uncle Heinz" :

So..sell two Nightforce scopes and start shopping for those sights--wow!
I have first match this coming Sat
1950's Redfield sights with a jazzy new Anschutz "contrast clear" aperture in the front ( cost $9) on a 1964 USA made rifle that the bore looks like the inside of a hollow log and the last 1/4 inch at the muzzle looks "smeared" inside the bore
But..It loves this one batch of Midas --I have 4 boxes of so.........
Let er rip Tater Chip--we will see what happens.....

Well.............................................
Practice had been going Great! I had a lot of ammo that was excellent--I thought after a couple of weeks on this new to me set up--that I was ready!
Ummmm--nope! At the first match I finished 3rd out of 4 shooters--my sighter bull was all 10's man I was Ready! My first few bulls were 10's and I was smiling!! Then went to the lower targets--and trouble started--I put the 3 rounds in a group the size of a dime but the group was a good inch and half left of the bull--next target --same deal--what??? And that was the story of my first outing--
Looking back I did not have my set up just right--when I went to the lower targets I was moving my head in a different position and when you do that with open sights things don't hit where you planned--I realized my mistake and re set for my second card--I raised the front and got things where they would be more the same as I moved target to target --it helped but the damage was done--
The indoor lighting on the targets was not great --brighter is Always better with aperture sights--In practice I have struggled in cloudy or low light--at 10 am when the sun is full on my targets I hammer pretty good.

All in all I LOVE the Remington 40X -all I have shot up until now has been a factory CZ MTR--the 40x has shown me what a real target rifle is all about --the 40x is so much easier to shoot well than the MTR.

I moped around all day after the match--questioning every move --I have a Lot to Learn about aperture sight shooting--but starting a new class -that requires new skills--has been stimulating--I love the new challenge . We will see how it goes--if my old eyes can do it I will keep working at it--if they won't I will scope it and shoot the Vintage class--either way I have a new rifle and a new additional class to shoot and that is always a good thing. The friends I have made in the new class is the icing on the cake

BIG Thanks to all on here that have helped get me headed in the right direction!
