Freyo has been banned. Along with negative feedback, he had very suspicious history of multiple IP addresses.

Unfortunately, we cannot block someone from the "get go" who apparently lives in USA, and has a valid email address.

I caution people who purchase from relatively new members.

Proceed with CAUTION

Insist on PHOTOS, lots of photos (with a current newspaper or TV running in background)

CALL the guy on the phone. No phone, no deal. REPEAT -- INSIST on a phone call. That will eliminate most foreign scammers.

Insist on INSURANCE for a valuable item. If the guy won't insure, forget him.

Be Smart -- if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

It has been suggested that we REQUIRE Gold or Silver membership to sell ANYthing. That would require these b*stards to invest at least $20 which would probably discourage many.

We already have a "time-out" period before someone can start selling. Should we extend that to two months? Longer?

Would like to hear reader views on this. People have been telling me that if someone can't afford $20 they shouldn't be allowed to sell at all.

FYI if you were to sell a $1500 rifle on Gunbroker the fee would be nearly $60 for that single transaction.

Silver or Gold membership would help eliminate the bad apples.

The 2 month waiting period would have hurt a guy like me. I started “selling” right away. When I say sellng, what I really mean is giving away. My first several transactions were freebies where all the buyer did was pay for postage after the fact.

I was trying to build my cred here, and that was a quick and easy way to do it.

Only time I was scammed was buying a gun on benchrestcentral not here and they pay a small fee to list so people will pay if it's cheap cuz the scams bring $$$$$$
How about say maybe 5 adds for silver, 20 for gold and create a Platinum for like $100 or something for unlimited. and NO FEE adds so they have to go a minimum for silver member.

This is a tough call. There are a lot of members who may not contribute monetarily but contribute tremendous amounts of USABLE information and wisdom. What is their time worth? I don't think shutting them out of the classifieds would be beneficial to the site. Having said that, if there are members that use the site ONLY FOR SELLING, and there are a few, I would require them to contribute money.

Like dragman said, $20 to scam people is not a big deal. I couldn't pull the trigger
on a SEB on this site when I got a P.M. from someone selling one. No posts, recent member. Legit? probably. I just couldn't do it.

some of that would have eliminated me from being here,,first ad I was not a member,2 days later I was,,have a trader history of 3 total,,just 3,,but a lot here will tell you I do what I say

I would agree with others, if you are going to sell go gold membership. Hogpatrol has a valid point about blocking people from the classified that contribute in wisdom but if it is possible to block the second group do so only in the form of selling but do not block them from the classifieds where they can do purchases only, not selling. If you want to sell I think you should pay. It is a small amount and will help cut some of the rif raff. I see a lot of stuff for sale but am always reluctant to buy because I do not know the individual so I buy knew instead.

I would think that the simple act of paying (by credit card only) some amount of membership dues in order to sell goods will provide a valuable tracking account or address. Would that be enough? Good question.

Worse yet is ebay, 10% final value fee plus around 4% paypal fees.

think one moment,I don't see a silver or gold thing on your sign,so you could not sell,is that really where everyone wants to go,,look through some of the post on this site and
you will find many who don't have that silver or gold thing,and their good people

I’ve been buying and selling online for 18-20 years. I have to admit, I really don’t want to buy from someone with no feedback who is new. There are long time members here with only a handful of posts and one or two feedbacks. I’d buy from them.

On the flip side, everyone is new once... due diligence.
