Thanks forum boss!! You literally just saved me. That PM was god like!! I got an email from him and the address was listed as protonmail.

Jpugs60 has been banned. After he registered, within a few hours he sent solicitations for three different products.

We do not allow individuals to post classifieds within two weeks of the registration. I can't say for sure this guy is a scammer but he is violating the spirit of our policy by his WTB Private messages.

As a general warning to our members. I would say flat out do not, repeat do not, buy anything from a member who has not been on this site for at least three weeks.

Do not buy anything from any member who will not provide current photos, who will not talk on the telephone, or who will not provide a physical street address.

Most important, insist on telephone communication -- ask smart questions. Assume the guy is a thief until he proves otherwise,

Unfortunately we do not have the resources to check out the identity of every member who registers.

I caution members to be very wary of newly-registered members who have no selling or posting history.

We are considering adopting a policy to prohibit any new member from soliciting a sale via PM or EMail in the first month of membership.

Unfortunately we cannot block PM access based on subject matter. But if we announce this rule, and forum members become aware of it they should be on notice that anyone attempting to sell in the first month is probably a scammer.

I just banned user JonProphet. He might not be a scammer but he was posting his own items for sale in other users' classifieds which violates our rules.

Thanks to USMCDoc for finding that jerk.

It's tough to find a solution for this -- he was blocked from posting his own adverts, but was trying to piggyback on other members ads.

My opinion is, don't do that at all. It is dishonest. Paypal is providing a service for which they should be paid.

I think the current system is fine.

Yes and we know the billionaires that own the company abide by the same rules and ethics we do...

As a long time member and Gold Contributor who did do 2 deals in the past with no issues I would support the concept of requiring a minimum number of posts, say 20, and at least Silver Membership in order to be allowed to post items for sale.

In my opinion...
The Classifieds are a just a nice bonus for active members. I’d dare to say that most members did not join this site simply to buy/sell and those are (again IMO) the legitimate members here.

In contrast: people who rarely or never participate in forum discussions are (yes, again, IMO) taking undue advantage of this site’s very generous Classifieds rules; regardless of their gold or silver membership status. While they are certainly following the rules in the most technical sense I feel they are not operating in the intented spirit of this excellent website or the Classifieds privileges. Rant over.

Back to the Boss’s question: Requiring a minimum number of posts in forums OTHER THAN CLASSIFIEDS prior to being allowed to use the Classisieds would weed out a bunch of scammers and other losers.
