Scale or Annealer

I hope they have a sale on the scale and autotrickler package like they did last year. I'm just waiting a few weeks to see - I'm ready to pull the trigger on one.

damn, now I am tempted. I don't need it but it does not stop me from wanting it

I had been looking at the fx120 Auto Trickler package on that site for about a week. Then one day it said “one left in stock” and it was like dangling a string in front of a cat. Some deep seated instinctual reflex kicked in and before I knew what happend it was purchased and on it’s way.

if I were into weighing bullets or doing case volumes I would order one in a skinny minute but I can't convince myself I need that much accuracy in powder weighing. I have 4 scales on my bench already. Three out of the four always agree with each other and my load nodes tend to be at least .1 error tolerant and I think the scales I have do half that or better

I hear you Jim. The reason I bought it was for the increased speed and efficiency vs. hand trickling. My GemPro was accurate enough for my needs

I need to learn how to make a video, I have got the finger trickling down to a science. On the electronics I gotten to the point to where I can throw and load to plus or minus .02 gn and do well over a case a minute seated and in the box now. That is plenty fast enough for me. The beam scale is trickier and slower to operate but it will get you there. I have to use a commercial trickler with it, fingers don't cut it

Your Chargemaster 1500 can do the job with some small modifications.
If you’re not annealing, you are going to get more from that over the upgrade to an FX 120i with auto trickler
Finding a proper node means that a very small variation in charge weight will minimally impact MV. So the Chargemaster 1500 will get you there where you need to be and you can verify on a balance beam scale for higher consistency and confidence.
But neck tension is greatly impacted by brass hardening and seating forces will vary more. Annealing (especially with an AMP v2) will reward you with highly consistent results with neck tension due to predictable brass hardness.
Oder charges are important - but do not think neck tension is less important. They are both very important for consistency….

You’re looking for consistency (which will show up in low Es/SD MVs)

Learn to properly use your chargemaster and available modifications then pick up an annealer. It all adds up to reducing those dreaded variables. Whatta Hobby!

Considering all the powder in your reloading room/bench area an AMP annealer would be a much safer bet and for sure more accurate and reliable results… No more running out of bottled gas on Sunday night… or estimating the amount of annealing.

No problem with amount of powder in the room. Usually closed containers anyway. Looked at the AMP some time ago and decided, for my application, the Giraud does a very nice job and I can let it run while working on other projects in the shop. No problem with running out of gas, got refillable camping size cylinders and a half dozen 100# tanks in the yard to keep them full. Surprising how long one of those little gas bottles will efficiently run the annealer. Whatta Hobby!
