SB Heavy 10 Update

Huhh?? I've got 4 swiveling casters under my Bridgeport..... and a lathe, and 7 other rollarounds including a mill/drill set up at eyeball ht.....and I leave them on all the time. I can roll my mill away to clean under it.

If you leave the machines on casters 24/7 how do you keep them level? Even lagged down to my garage floor, the machines need releved as the seasons change

Aaron

It would take some kind of spirits for me to do that job to:D
Doin' it and talking about it are two different things! Never let your friends see you ride a moped or a fat chick. That's all I have to say about that.

BTW Greg! Looks like you found a great deal on a good lathe. Congrats!

I don't do "level." I do square. Square exists on any plane. And "square" is a moving target, the lathe is capable of being squared unto itself.

The lathe that's movable is a shorty.

Traveling lathes, shipboard lathes, even lathes on wooden floors ALL can and have for a hundred years turned out top-notch one-off work.

This is all I do, proto/one-off work.

Obviously production machines aren't in this category.

It would scare most machinists to see how a lathe is mounted in a navy ship.

I went thru this process about 10 yrs. ago with a SB heavy 10. It is worth it! If you properly care for it ,you can't wear one out. They were built before the engineers were designing for warranty purposes. Not sure about the stairs but a good "rented" pallet jack is irreplaceable! That and about 4 "BIG" friends should get it done.
I have been thru a lot with mine and bought several attachments and "do-dads" for mine. If you have questions feel free to PM me.

Oh yeah, I would not sell ANY parts that came with it until you are CERTAIN you will not use them. (5-6 years from now) seriously you would be amazed at what you will find a use for. Trust me.

Unless you want to sell them to me?? LOL.

Can’t tell about which cabinet it has under it but looks very much like the one I have. Already has treading dial and taper attachment, that’s about $700 worth of “add ons” tight there. QC gearbox is great too. Looks great.

It has a 4 jaw. Need to figure out how to make or buy an outboard spider.

A buddy of mine made some mounts on his mill to attach a dro to his heavy10 it's pretty slick
Cool. Could you get some pics? Or do you think that he’d make another set for fun and profit? I’d like to have a DRO.
