SB Heavy 10 Update

Oh yeah, I would not sell ANY parts that came with it until you are CERTAIN you will not use them. (5-6 years from now) seriously you would be amazed at what you will find a use for. Trust me.

Unless you want to sell them to me?? LOL.
I’ll hit you up. There is a TON of stuff.

I made an outboard spider for mine a couple months ago. Next time I am at the shop I will make some pics so you can at least see how I did it. I have never ran across one of those for sale.

A lot of times on older lathes, there will be wear up near the head stock. You can "level" this thing until the cows come home and still will not turn true for the entire length. Here is a method of "squaring" it up by adjusting the feet to get it to withing your tolerances.

When I say level, I am not referring to a home depot plastic bubble level but expensive Starrett machinist levels.
The "rollie's dad method" will get you turning without that. You will also be learning setup and operation while doing it.
First things first though, make sure you are using the proper oil in the cups. (non-detergent) there is a wealth of info on these older SB out there. Any way I can help let me know. I dont know why I have taken so much interest in your project? I guess it reminds me of mine 8 or 9 years ago.

Like ckaberna, I'm finding this interesting as well. I have a 1966 South Bend 13 which came to me with almost no tooling. The 13 shares a lot with the 10 like the spindle bore, spindle threads, collet system, etc. and they work mostly the same. You'll find it to be a very capable gunsmithing lathe.
