Save the Date For "The Blast" Balloon Shoot 2022

We will hosting a Balloon Shoot, May 5-8, 2022. The Shoot will be similar to the VHA Jamboree that we enjoyed so much in South Dakota. Unfortunately, that Shoot ended in 2011 or so and many of us miss that contest so we decided to try and revive it. The format will be very similar with small changes to make it current with 2022. The "Blast" will be at the Flint Oak Ranch in Fall River, KS. Take the time to visit their website at FlintOak.com. We will have five classes of Rifles ranging from .22 LR to an unlimited Class. For those not familiar with the Shoot you can visit Youtube and look up 2010 VHA Jamboree to get an idea. We will not be taking entries or reservations to the rooms or camper sites at the Flint Oak facility until the first of the year. We will be posting rules and more information as we continue to develop the Contest. We are starting a mailing list to contact at the first of the year, please email us at bauergranite@aol.com to get on that list.
Thank You and look forward to seeing you.

We continue to receive input and great information from some of the past competitors that participated in old Varmint Hunters matches. We have defined the classes and included them here. We will continue to refine the rules and get them posted as they develop. We have a great deal of interest showing up and our Email list of interested people grows daily. Stay tuned for more information as it develops. For all those that have never tried this kind of competition it is unique and a lot of fun. Great place to shoot and you'll make a lot of new friends. Hope to see you next May.

The rules have been updated. The not to exceed 3150 muzzle velocity rule has been revised. It now reads, not to exceed 3150 muzzle velocity with the exception of .224 caliber or less.

Hi guys, just trying to provide an update on the status of the May 2022 Balloon Shoot. Benches will be finished soon, and the balloon racks are finished ready to go. Over 18,000 balloons have been purchased and are waiting to be shot. Around the first of January, entry forms will be out to everyone on the email list and we will also post a copy of it here. Attached is a list of Sponsors so far. This link will show the 2010 Varmit Hunters balloon shoot. "The Blast " will be very similar. We are very grateful for all of the Sponsors and have provided an attached list. Please take the time to share a big thank you with any of them you might run into.

Here are the entry forms. Rooms are first come, first served and are reserved though us. Also attached is a list of sponsors. Please take the time to thank them. Without them we could not do this shoot. They have given us a lot of great things to give away. We will do that in a raffle type format, with each shooter receiving free tickets in their shooter bags. We will do that on Sat. night at the BBQ. If you have any questions about rooms you can call Sally 316-259-2585 or email us. bauergranite@aol.com. Hope to see you all in May, Jim and Sally

My entry is in the mail. Looking forward to it.

To help me prepare and decide what to shoot, do I have the course of fire correct?

For centerfire classes, you come to the bench one time only (unless you advance). There will be 18 balloons at 4 different distances (107, 246, 365 & 492 yards). You have 20 rounds to engage the balloons in any order you want. There will be no sighters on the day of the match. This is done on Thursday only.

If this is correct, I'm thinking 45 rounds + sighters (maybe 65 total) should be plenty of ammo for each class entered.

Do I have it right?

You have it right, with the exception of accidentally hitting the balloon frame and having to reshoot. If you hit the frame you will probably explode all of the balloons and we will have to reset that frame. We made the frames larger so the probability is a lot less now. But I've seen it happen

We have made a few schedule changes. First we have added sighter periods at the end of the competition each day, lasting as long as time will allow. We have also added 1 hour sighter period each morning. 2nd we are moving Factory class to Friday and Tactical to Saturday. So .22 and Factory shoot Friday, Tactical and AR on Saturday and Unlimited on Sunday. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks

Just finished one of the trophies for the shoot. The 6 Champion trophies are 14"X 21" and the 2nd through 5th trophies are 12 1/2" X 18 1/2". All that needs to be added are the placing plates.

There are only a few rooms available in the Lodge, plenty of room left for additional shooters though. If you are undecided and possibly want a room at the lodge, please give us a call with any questions. Things are shaping up to be a great shoot and maybe more importantly, a lot of fun. If you like the shotgun sports there will sporting clays, trap, skeet and five stand to shoot when the rifles are put up. Hope to see you soon
Jim

We still have a few shooter slots open and will accept entries until 4/15/22. Also ask about our active military or police discount.

Are silencers legal in Kansas & allowed in tac, open & AR divisions?
Can we clamp a stick to the table to load bipods against?

I want to get the most out of the precious few range sessions available to me before the event. Figured I would ask here instead of emailing in case others are wondering same.

Looking forward to it.

Thanks!

Yes, silencers are legal and can be used in all classes but must be part of the weight allowed in the classes. Yes, you can clamp a stick to the bench. Everyone is looking forward to it. I think we are going to have so much fun. I looked today and we have shooters coming from 12 different states. Jim

I’ve never loaded so much ammo in my life. 2 guys, each shooting 3 divisions. 4 rifles total. 400 rounds +/-? I hope we get to burn it all up! Looking forward to it.
