Here are two pictures from a new action on the shelf at a big box store that is on display and I'm sure it has been cycled many more times than the one I recieved. It has a much better finish on the raceway than mine and no visible wear on the bolt head. The pictures dont do it justice either. The difference is way more noticed in person and especially when you run your finger over it.

for the record, they may ask you to send it to their repair facility.
DO NOT DO THAT
it cannot be repaired, It must be replaced, which may require a new back ground check.
of they send it from the repair center to the factory. been there done that.
tell them do not ask, that you want to return to the factory, it is not a repair, it is a replacement.

Thank you everyone for the advice. They are sending me a box to ship it back in but they said that box won't be shipped out until after the first of the new year. They said the shipping is on me so I hope they do something about it.

Good , that's the best thing to do , just send it back I am sure Savage will take care of it.. Don't forget to include a note with the things you want looked at with the rifle... It sucks you have to pay for return shipping but once it's fixed that should be it.... I have gotten were I check everything I can before buying anymore and pretty much ask to see more than one so I can hand pick it... Just did it a few days ago with a new pistol.....
