Savage trigger upgrade.

Finding that jamming to form Dasher profile in fireform barrel that I have to set accu trigger (on single shot new target action) higher than I like for shooting groups with competition barrel..would like to know if there is consensus on aftermarket triggers for Savage single shot that is superior to accu trigger.

I like the RIFLE BASIX - SAVAGE 10/110 SAV-2 TRIGGER.

I have the SSS evolution trigger on my target action and it has been dependable at 2.5 to 3 oz. That being said it is not a Jewel or a Bix and Andy nor is it up to the level of an Anschutz trigger. There is a very small amount of creep in it that I have not been able to completely adjust out, not a lot but it is there. There have been no problems with the rifle not cocking or dropping the firing pin if the bolt is run briskly and the trigger pull has not varied in the last 550 rounds, it has 600 rounds on it.

The biggest drawback regarding this trigger is the turn around time which may have improved since I got mine when they first came out. The wait wasn't a huge problem for me since I was waiting on my stock and barrel while the action was at SSS.

Two of my friends have tried the Rifle Basics triggers and have returned to the Savage target trigger and have them running at 4 to 6 oz. A search of this site will yield a lot of information on Savage triggers and posters with much more experience than I have with them.

I have two rifles built on the Savage/Stevens actions, they shoot great. No regrets gong this way but life is an ongoing learning process and any future build will be done on a Borden, Bat or Kelby action. The fellow who comes up with an owner installable true target grade trigger for the Savage action will have all the business he can do.

My thoughts and experience,
T W Hudson

Thanks to you all. Have ordered a Rifle Basics from Graf and son, am also going to check out Sharp Shooter Supply. Thanks all

My experience with the SSS Evolution mirrors that of Mr. Hudson. I recently sold an F-Open rifle built around a Savage PTA and the Evolution trigger. Reliable at 2oz, just a little bit of creep that you can't get rid of, the wait to have one installed sucked. I put around 4,000 rounds through the gun before I sold it, never had a problem with the trigger.

From what I've read about the SAV-2 on "the Internet", if you want a trigger that goes down to the ounces in a Savage action, the SSS Evolution is the only safe and reliable one. It's a 3 lever design similar to a Jewell, the SAV-2 is not.

Plus one more The SSS Evolution or the Red Blade Savage is the only one that I never had a slam fire with. The SAV 2 is ok if you keep it over 6OZ Larry

I,too, have two Savage actioned long range bench rest guns. One I had Nat Lambeth tweak the action and trigger. After I messed with it too much, I put an old SAV-2 on it and have had one slam fire with it already when I tried to pound the stock into the rear bag! Nat's re-worked trigger is going back on now that I know the proper trigger finger motion! It is really hard to beat a properly used red accutrigger.
My other gun is at SSS getting an Evo trigger installed, someday!

Like I have said before, I have 2 Savage Target Rifles with the Savage Red Accutriggers. One a 6mmBR and the other a .308. Both are set at 4 oz now after I just reset the .308 from 6 oz to 4 oz as measured by my Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Gauge. Shooters that have had good luck with this trigger at very low settings will tell you to not slam the bolt handle down and no side force on the trigger during the pull back. If you are new to these low settings on the Red Accutrigger be sure to do some dry fire practice.

I really like my rifle basics sav.-2. I will say it is not a Jewell, but it is a nice trigger. The lowest I could get mine set to, while having it it never slam fire, and the safety to work properly is 7oz's. But I am happy with it. I have ran around 1,000 rounds through it, and never had a slamfire.
