savage rifle in 6.5CM ?

anyone have or have a opinion on the savage 16/116 Trophy Hunter xp package rifle in 6.5 creedmoore .
22" barrel.

Well, it's a sporter barrel.

If you're mainly just hunting, then it will suit you just fine.

But if you want to target shoot, get their rifle with a varmint contour(fat) barrel.

Can you buy it without the package as they usually put a 25.00 scope and cheap mounts on it.That way you wont be stuck with a scope that is inaccuarate.

no i wanted it as a hunting rifle. no it only comes in the package form.
It's not a bad looking rifle, has a nice nikon 3-9 BDC scope on it.. i will change the scope but it is a good way to get my feet wet and see if i like the cartridge. I tryed to find a few other models but it seems everything is on back order so i put money down on it hope to pick it up in a few weeks. i have some factory loads for it and picked up cases,bullets and dies.. i got a box of the 123gr A-max has a .510 BC i'm going to see how fast i can push them..I had a 116 in a .270 win some years back 22" barrel and i had no problem pushing a 150 gr bullet out of it at 3,050 FPS and it was as accurate as any 270 hunting rifle i ever had. so i hope it will be accurate and i hope the 22" barrel does not hurt me too bad.

They're starting to put Nikon glass on their rifles.

So, they're not as bad anymore.

I recently purchased it's brother....the xp package in .260 remington. I cut the barrel off to 20" to use as a short deer stand rifle. The scope isn't bad, but I put a nicer one on it. Used it to take two very nice whitetail bucks this year with 120 grain TTSX bullets. I don't think you can go wrong. If you don't like it and want to install a custom barrel, or another caliber barrel, the creedmoor barrel would be super easy to sell.

i picked up the savage rifle tonight in 6.5 creedmoore. 16/116 package rifle got it home and checked it over. I am really likeing it. it has a clip which i wasent sure i would like but factory hornady 140 A-max's have plenty of room in the clip. so measured it with a dial caliper and it looks like i could get a base to bullet tip of three inch in the clip so that is good for the long high BC bullets. the bolt and action feels really tight. I have 123 A-max's and 129 SST's for it. cases and dies. but i have two boxes of hornady factory's if i get time this weekend i will chrony them and seem how it shoot's.. just play with it some before i start loading and change the scope out. if i get time i will post how it goes.
