Savage Project Question

I ran across a clean, used Savage BVSS in a gun store near here in 22-250. I'm not interested in a 22-250, but am wondering about using this action/stock with another barrel...perhaps in some 6mm configuration.

Would the bolt face on the rifle now be usable as is, or need the attention of a gunsmith, or need to be replaced? Many thanks. This would be my first Savage, so I'm in the dark...not the first time!

The bolt face would work fine with a 6BR. If you wanted to try a 6PPC you can order an extended extractor from SSS that will make it function 100%.

Don't discount the 22-250. It's a great cartridge and I would at the very least recommend buying a couple of boxes of ammo and some reloading dies and seeing what the bbl will do. One of the guys at my range's BR match's modified class uses a Savage with a custom 22-250 bbl and does well with it. I never beat him with my 6BR.

The .22-250 is my favorite round of all times, even more than the 6mmBR. There easy to load for and make a great bench gun.
