Came a cross a good deal on a savage mark -2 btvss 22lr. New still in the box thinking hard on buying it. Any one have one of these that can tell me how accurate they shoot. What kinda groups do they shoot with good ammo?? ThanksD0C38A1F-CAC9-46D5-8D2C-AC8A9C3E1AB8.jpeg

I own a lefty one. It's a second to third tier accurate rifle at a relatively low price point.
I don't measure groups, I shoot scores.
My btvss(and my mkI fvt) will shoot mini-palma f-class scores into the mid to high 90's
My annies will shoot up to 100s in f-class.
The mk I as a sling rifle is better than me, not much point in spending more.

So a very accurate rifle for what it is.
Compared to utility 22s it's a laser.
Won't win matches in unlimited class against rifles costing multiples, duh.

That (boyds) thumbhole stock is attractive and very nice for prone shooting unlike the plastic cheapo savage stocks that are good for sh-t.

Stainless is nice. The major niche for mine now is winter practice :)

worst problem is failure to extract mostly with particular ammos

Otherwise I highly recommend it.

happy to try to answer any particular questions

Seems to shoot all good ammos well but struggles to extract cci and federal
center-x seems like a particularly good match
doesn't quite feel like the savage 'deserves' tenex :)

learned to shoot 22 at 200yards with mine, rails are easily available

Thanks. I am looking in to this one for my son to shoot in some local bench rest match’s that some friends Have for fun.

FWIW I own an early MKII and have had good luck tweaking it for better precision. First and foremost I added a rear action screw by threading the rear boss and running a 1/4-20 screw through the rear trigger guard screw. I then tweaked the trigger to the best I could (which works fine). At that point I removed any stock touching the barrel forward of the action and glass bedded front to back. Modified two aluminum pillars and bedded them at the same time. Had almost nothing out of pocket to the mods and the rifle shoots a couple of Match loads very well out to 200 yds. For hunting Winchester 40 gr. plated hollow points shoot about 1/2" at 50 yds. and an inch at 100.
For what it is I am happy with it as a fun gun. For matches I use a Win. 52-C with much the same prep.

I too own a BTVLSS (lefty), it's not fair to compare it to an Annie. I have a 1712 Anschutz and it was well over 3X the price of my Savage, and yes it will outshoot the Savage. But the Savage don't have the ejection problems the Annies have, and the action is just as slick.

My Savage has shot under 1" at 100 yards using cheap Federal American Eagle hollow points, not saying it'll do it every time, but it does shoot it well.

Don't be afraid of the Savage, IMO they are good rifles for the $$$. If you buy it, install a Apachee trigger kit or better yet a Rifle Basix trigger.

I shot a couple quick 5-shot groups today. Two total groups, no called fliers, no bs.

I didn't 'do my part' very well, especially not having a flag for a breezy wind. And not bringing any center-x.

All I really proved is that the rifle itself is capable of considerably better than .6" and .8" at 50 yards with wolf match extra.

Not a btvss but this is my mk11 tr savage i was testing accuracy on. 50 yards off bipod and rear squeeze bag. Cci std ammo. Started at bottom left to right in a snake pattern finishing top left. I cant say those last few groups were me or the rifle i was getting tired and shooting pretty fast. But it shows it shoots plenty accurate enough. With a large sample size of groups. Nothing cherry picked for groups. Good luck in your accuracy quest.20220418_112824.jpg

My MK-II has a weak firing pin and I get duds with some ammo. But accuracy is pretty good with expensive ammo like RWS-50 & Eley Match.

At 109 yards (100m) 4 sets of consecutive 5 shot groups with RWS-50

5 shot group with Eley Team at 109 yards.

trivial grammar nazi point

It's a Mk2 or MkII (roman numeral)

definitely not a mark eleven

Mk Is are single load, Mk IIs are magazine fed.
