Savage LRPV in 6 BR

Does anyone have any idea when the new Savage 6 BR will be available? Thanks, in advance for your replys. Bill

Not sure but my guess would be this summer, I thnk they still have a few last minute detail to figgure out. From what I have read it will have either a 1 in 12 or a 1 in 14 twist barrel. My self I would hope that they would speed the twist up, to a 1 in 10 or 1 in 8.

Yea Man, at least a 1 - 10 but I would prefer 1 - 8 too. Shooting the lighter bullets from the tighter twist don't seem to hurt accuracy in any of my rifles. Bill

As I understand it there will be two twists available. The LRPV will come with a 1/12 or 1/14 twist. I don't know which it'll be. The F-Class Open model will come with a 1/8 twist.

What's really nice about Savage is that you'll be able to order either barrel in the model of your choice by calling Effie Sullivan @ 800-370-0708 ext. 6 at the Savage Custom Shop. There will be a small extra charge for this custom order and the wait time will be about two weeks over the normal order once production gets up and running. But don't ask me when that'll be.

I have heard that the f class in 6br may be a 1 in 8 twist, I would think that Savage would be ahead making both the same twist rate.

I'd prefer to have the choice between both a 1/8 twist barrel for bullets like the 107 SMK that work the best for LR shooting and a slow twist, something like a 1/12 or 1/14, for bullets like the 55 gr. BlitzKing or Ballistic Tip. If you're a 'dog shooter those lightweight bullets @ around 3700 MV out of a slow twist barrel are hard to beat.

I think that Savage has the right idea making 6BR's in both twist rates. They're listening to their customers, as polls taken by the savageshooters.net website have indicated.

It's so easy to swap barrels on a Savage and I already have all of the tools, so I think that when it comes time for me to order my 6BR Savage, I'll order one rifle and two barrels.

I only hope the new rifles are not chambered with a long factory throat like the 6.5X284 they made. I know two excellent life-long competitive shooters that have bought, then sold their Savage F-class rifles after getting mediocre results from them and frustration with throats that were so long. I myself have never played with them.

Yes, hopefully the throat length will be appropriate for the bullet weights most likely implied by your choice of twist rate. For example, for the 1 in 12 barrels, throat lengths suitable for bullets 75 to 80gr,rough average of say Hornady 75, Nosler 80, Berger 80).

Actually, looking at the name, LONG RANGE Precision Varminter, would lead me to hope that the barrel is a 1:8 twist. Savage seems to be more and more looking at the long range competition market and this would be THE twist for that.

Either way, I won't have a dog in this fight as I am having a 6mmBR Krieger barrel put on my 12 LRPV and having the .223 Rem barrel set back, recrowned, and lapped for the gun whihc will be a switch barrel gun with two bolts.

I would really hope that at some point Savage will start putting premium cut-rifling barrels on their guns. I think if they were to work out a "deal" with a barrel manufacturer the barrel price per gun would be acceptable to their customers.

Also, it would be nice to have the BVSS stock mated with new target actions as this stock has ample wood to allow it to have cooling vents cut in the forearm, an adjustable cheekpiece cut, and an adjustable butt to be added. That way, the factory could provide the stock and then the customers have modifications done if they desire.

Could you please be more specific?

Were these two shooters competing in F-Class?
What bullets were they shooting?
Any idea of the COAL needed to kiss the lands?

I haven't heard this complaint before!

Inquiring minds want to know ;)

Just a simple question, I see results from these competitions and know that savage does win again and again. This company doesn't rule but it is competitive. There might just be a little American pride left over. A massive outpouring of letters might be the best thing we can give our American companies, let them know the things we need and want. Maybe then we can start selling a few products to these other countries.

Both are hard core F-class shooters and I know that they tried 123 and 139 Lapuas, 130 and 140 Bergers and they were seated so long that they were barely in the case. As for COAL, I don't know, but based on their experiences I personally have completely abandoned the idea of owning one.

SOMEbody is getting them to work, and good on them I suppose.

The Savage F class that I bought was set up very thoughtfully. I was seating SMK 142 @ .010 from lands and had plenty of bullet base-shank inside the case. As a matter of fact, it almost was positioning the actual base of the full bullet diameter just ahead of the do-nut area. And as I understand this is much accepted in the BR community. The only reason I sold mine was to go full-tilt BR rifle at sometime in the near future. Bill

They are still a factory made rifle, you have control of nothing. Many will shoot good and a certain percentage won't until they have been accurized and or rebarreled.

I just got my 12 LRPV RBLP 6mmBR back for Mr. Larry Racine who rebarreled it with a Krieger in 1:8 twist. If the factory gun is anything as good as Larry's rifle - it will be one sweet gun.

So far, the gun is grouping in the 3/8" range for 5 shots at 100 yards and This is withiut working up a load, done during barrel breaking with cleaning between shots).

well, i want to either build one, or buy one in 6br. im hoping for 1-8 twist. i kinda assumed that it would have the same twist as their 243s which is a 1-9.25" twist.

and as far as my opinion on savage factory rifles, my lrpv 223 shoots the 75 gr amax amazingly well. i would have chosen the 22-250 with the 9" twist but they didnt offer that when they first came out with the lrpv. i think the 22-250 shooting the 75gr amax would be a real hard cartridge to beat as far as buckin the wind at long distances. but of course the br would be more accurate.

just my two cents....
