My Savage will shoot groups with Lapua 105's that are incredible to me. First time I ever wondered at all if my handloads can at least MATCH factory ones.
So far no such results. I did find that 27.5grs of Varget with 95 grain Sierra HPBT seem to be the best. However I have horizontal stringing that looks like 5 zeros touching each other. ( 00000 ). I always thought that this result is usually the fault of the shooter who has picked up a bad habit. This is at 100 yds off rests. The factory Lapuas 105's will shoot for me around 1/4 inch which I think is incredible. When I loaded 105 I had terrible results. All over. These Sierra's 95's show great promise if only I control that stringing. I think I have picked up a bad habit and since I shoot alone I don't have anyone to watch for any errors. Any tips?

You need to go up in powder in small increments till you find the amount where the stringing stops.Basically getting to the perfect barrel vibration and suddenly you will be shooting little holes. You may want to try other powders if this one doesnt make the cut. BUT BE CAREFUL AND READ THE PRESSURE SIGNS. You may have better luck with h322 or aa2015.

Thanks for the info. Small increases checking for high pressure....do you mean in one tenth of a grain increments? The reason I ask this I have noticed over the years reloading mauals (1st started in 1963 and buy a new one every 6 or 7 years) have gradually decreased their max loads significantly. (lawyers?) . In fact since the 6mmBR is new to me I bought Sierra's newest one. They do not list their 6mm 95 grain bullet at all. When I contacted Sierra (whose bullets I have always liked) they told me they no longer sell supplement pages as they once did so that I should use the info for their 100gr. bullet.
Am I off by some tenths or am I a full grain or more light? I know each rifle is different. Not having a manual doesn't make it easy in fact when I look at what they call Max loads in calibers I have experience with for years I realized I could be light by a fair bit. Thanks very much.

to the OP....go to the 6mmBR section on this site and look at the loads....most use 30.5 to 31.5 of varget....you are using 27 and change....you are 3 gr lite...thats a lot....I would go to 30.5 and try a few (5 or 6...not 100 of em) and see what they are like.....this is one of the advantages of loading at the range.....you culd size and prime all of your brass and then put the powder in em one at a time rather than load a bunch wrong......these loads are very well tested and documented.....this is a very informative site....you will get there ..I would go up on the carge .3 tenths of a gr at a time from 30 or so......Roger

Mine does very well with the 105 Berger Vld's, 30 Gr of Varget, .02" off the lands. She had a 20 shot Agg. at 600 yards of 2.988" and had a score of 179/200 at a Benchrest Match in November. Not bad for a factory class rifle. I think I'll keep her.

Ken.

I have two of the same guns but 1 has 0 round count. The first one will shoot 107 sierras or 105 amax into 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 with 30.4 varget and cci450. When i shoot the berger 80fb with 30.4 varget it will shoot in the same hole. I found with mine that in the beginning the stringing was caused when the rifle was recoiling in the rear bag it was following the angle of the stock causing some vertical.

Mine like 105 bergers with 30.1 gr varget and will print 3/8 average size groups at 100 some are much tighter.

Up the powder and it will come together.
