loads for the Savage LRPV 6BR

I am looking for help with loads for my new Savage LRPV 6MMBR. I've looked around,Savage shooters)and not many folks at all own this gun probably due to its 1:12 twist. Anyway, so far I have tried 30.0-31gr Varget with Lapua brass and Berger 66, 70, and 80gr FBHP. the 70 and 80's shoot between .2-.5 at 100yds. The 66 about .5-.75. I have also tried 30.0 Varget with 75gr V-Max. They dont seem to shoot well so far anyway. Fed 205M primers were used and the 70 and 80 gr bullets were seated to jam. Using standard Redding dies.
I am also interested to know if bedding the HS stock or turning case necks is worth the effort for this gun and its factory barrel.
thanks

Other loads and suggestions for this gun would be great.

try 15 or 20 thousandths off the lands and maybe vitavouri n-135. maybe you'll find some thing there. also take a look at your muzzle crown with a strong magnifying glass. good luck _____treeman

favload: Another endorsement for trying VV135 in your 6BR. I also worked with Varget, would get 1/2 moa one time, and just barely moa the next. Have heard that Varget will vary from lot to lot, and although still one of my favorites, the Savage 6BR really came alive with VV135 and 85 gr. HPFB, seated .020" off. If you're using Lapua brass with a factory chamber/neck dia. I would not turn the necks. My chamber is a .272" no-turn neck, loaded round neck dia. is .269". Tried some Norma,$$$$) 6BR brass and compared it with Lapua: found the Lapua to be superior, at approx. $20 lower cost per 100. Neck wall thickness on the Norma varies by as much as .0025"/ Lapua is .001" Max.:)

I have some VV135, what powder weight and primmers were you using and what kind or accuracy were you getting? I take it the 85's were stable, I know the factory 90gr Lapua will not stableize in my gun. Today I shot out to 325yds with 80gr HPFB Berger, 30.5gr Varget anf Fed. 205's and got 1 MOA. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Do you think the VV135 and 85's would do better?
thanks

The 3 LRPVs that I had got bedded. The pillared F/TR I have now sprung like a cat when I first opened it. I tried Brownells ?Accruglass? on one of the LRPVs because it’s so watery and gives a good thin skim. But it doesn’t have much of a working time and once it starts to set it sets real fast. Also a gel compound like ProBed will fill in the gaps on both sides of the lug face better. I used bolts with the head cut off centered in the front and rear screws as guides and tighten down on the center screw so very little, just enough to even out the bedding nice. Good luck.

favload: Rifle is the Savage 12BVSS, originally a 243, rechambered to 6BR, .272" no-turn neck, 1-9.25 twist. 30 grs. VV135, 85 gr. HPFB seated .020" off the lands at 2.133" oal, Fed 205,not match) primers, chronographed velocities average 2990 fps, Lapua brass. Cannot give bullet ident info: they are "homemade" by one of my clubmembers, and while not "Bergers", they will shoot-- in my rifle,s). The majority of my groups are fired at 200 yd, 5 shot groups. Looking at the targets as I write this, groups measure: .898", 1.146", 1.342", 1.716", and a 10 shot group that measures 1.440". Wanting to get some longer distance performance, for 4 & 500 yd BR varmint matches, fired locally, have been trying boattail, Sierra 85 gr Gameking) poor results, and the 87 gr. Hornady HPBT, that are averaging 1.527". Tried the whole line of V-Max: 65,75 & 87 gr. with dismal results: they will not shoot in my rifle. Will continue to work with the 87 Hornady HPBT & try to get them to perform at 500, if not will have to use the shorter range proven 85 HPFB. The above load combo works in my rifle/ how's that for a disclaimer?:)
