Savage LRPV 6br 1-12 twist

This gun just will not shoot. Ive tried H4895,H335,varget and 8208xbr for powders. I've tried nosler 55 gr bt,nosler 70gr bt and hornaday 65gr vmax for bullets. I'm using br4 primers The 8208 with a 65gr vmax will shoot close to a 3/4 group. All the rest of the loads are lucky to shoot under a 3" group. I've had 2 good known scopes on the rifle. Still the same groups. Ive had the barreled action in and out of the stock looking for problems.Still no improvements. The gun does have a h.s. precision that savages uses on that model. The barrel is not centered in the barrel channel. It is offset quite a bit. The left side of the barrel is almost touching the stock and there is plenty of clearance on the right side.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? I guess it's time to call savage and ship it back to them and see what they say.

I see the LRPV in 6BR as having a 1-8 twist..was it offered in 1-12?.....so is this a replacement barrel? That would make sense with your choice of lighter bullets.

You could get a 1-12 twist from savage in the 6br lrpv a couple of years ago. I brought this rifle new in 2011 and just started shooting it the last month or so.

kountryboy2, when you removed the barreled action from the stock did you retorque the action screws to spec? Also what process did you use to break in the barrel?

The LRPV was offered in a 12 twist, I have one. Make sure that barrel is free floating and torque the action screws. There is a article on this site on how to do that, just search for it. As far as a load, I use Varget, cci450, and 87 vmax and 80 Berger. I'm convinced the 80 berger is just perfect for it. Good luck.

Have it bedded and have the chamber and barrel checked by a reputable gunsmith. Ive seen one of those savage factory barrels with a chamber that didnt line up with the bore real well.

I own 2 of the LRPV with 8 twist. If you are not sure of the twist, check it with a brush and pulling a cleaning through it counting revolutions per inches of travel. Both of mine shoot lights out. Check for rub marks on the barrel and stock (clearance), and how it contacts the alum block. If all else fails try another barrel. First have the barrel scoped as suggested by another member. That LRPV is normally a proven performer, i'd bet there isn't much wrong with it, something simple, you just have to find it.
