Savage LRPV

I bought a Savage lrpv last year and the person who had it had a gunsmith cut the bull barrel to 22". It has a 12 twist . I can not get it to group with bullets from 55 nosler to 80 grain bergers. Will the barrel being that short keep them from grouping? Thanks Perk

A barrel that length is fairly normal in short-range BR shooting. I would check the fired brass to see if the chamber is OK and do a close inspection of the crown and make sure it was properly cut.

Have you tested some tried and true loads from the 6 BR section of this web site?

The crown look good no dings looks like 9 degrees. I can take the brass and neck size then and use then in my Rem 700 6br. The remington shoot 107 with Varget in 2's and3's. Thanks Perk

Take a look at the throat and the rest of the inside of the barrel with a Hawkeye bore scope and see if the problems are inside.

You should send it back to Savage. They are really good at making thing right. Mine shoot one tiny little one hole groups (5) shot groups.

I shoot 80 Bergers and 80 Fowlers in mine and it shoots tight with Varget .

You should send it back to Savage. They are really good at making thing right. Mine shoot one tiny little one hole groups (5) shot groups.

I doubt Savage will do anything since it has been cut off. What is your velocity? Try a short match bullet.
