Savage firing pin?

That design has issues. Savage claims no problem but the new springs are different than the ones that came out. They only wanted to sell them to a ffl licensee, fwiw. I'd get and install the new spring set up, even though you got it working for now. Not expensive and it needs done. I've seen a bunch of ftf issues with that design, on virtually brand new guns. Hell, brand new ones that wouldn't fire, too. Thought it was just gummed up oil but it was deeper than that and the new springs cured it.

I didn't read them all at first so I went back and read them. Still didn't see where you changed the springs. You did mention re-seating the primers as fixing your particular gun.

So I'll say it again...that design has issues for which Savage changed the spring design. It's well worth doing because I've seen it on about a half dozen brand new or nearly new guns..and the replacement springs cured each of them. Does that annoy you? Do you feel better now?

It may be of help to someone else that reads this so chill. It'll be ok. I promise.

Why would I change a spring if i no longer have an issue with FTF's:rolleyes:

I have an axis that i am having this issue on. First time out not one issue. Took it out 2 more times and am having issues. I can not send mine back since it was bought to build a 6x45. Not stock anymore.

Dang that took a bit of a turn. Yeah Savage will only ship internal parts of a bolt to a ffl, so spent the morning dealing with that. Should ship out tomorrow. Makes absolutely no sense but so is the times i guess.
I have an older savage long action with adjustable firing pin that I'm gonna take the parts out and see if they will work in this newer bolt when I get time so I'll know for future reference.

I did not know that Gunshack sold firing pin assemblies, but now I do. This has been an informative thread.
Thanks

You WILL have a problem, its a poor cheap design easily repaired . If you listen to knowledgeable smiths you will not need to be so childish.
Your current fp is heavy , non adjustable and just barely adequate. Now if you know why good fp strikes are important to good accuracy you would change it . A barely adequate strike is going to give you inconsistent strikes , which means inconsistent velocities, and we all know what that means .
A fully adjustable, lighter , faster FACTORY fp set up is available.
Savage copied the axis fp design to save money , period .
