Savage firing pin?

You have the newer firing pin assembly and it's not available from anybody but Savage. Have you called them? The typical case for newer guns is parts are not available from any body but the manufacturer and they may not sell some of them to the public.

I converted a 116 to a 338 Lapua bolt face. The parts on the right are what's required to convert to the older firing pin assembly.

Bummer, the one on the left side next to the bolt lift is the type I have in both my rifles.
I have not called Savage but I did send an email. I'd rather not do any converting. Is there a reasonable way to enhance the firing pin strike with the firing pin I have? Every once in awhile I get an FTF. Usually a second strike works but not always.

That appears to be a firing pin from a Savage Axis, not sure how that’s from a model 10 as pictured.

Yet it is. Both my rifles have the same firing pins and they are not Axis's. One is a model 11 the other is a 110.

It's identical to the one in my Savage 12FP. Later Savages sold through distributors like Cabella's, Sportsmans Whse, etc. can have some unique 'features' that differ from standard production line guns of the same model number....my 12FP 'Cabella's specific' model is a perfect example. I haven't seen the 'new style' pin like this available anywhere in the aftermarket.

I'd call Savage with the serial number and get the correct one right from the source. And an extra. -Al

I find it hard to believe my rifles are potentially "unique", they are not high end rifles but shoot extremely well...when a round goes off.

I'd start with cleaning the firing pin assembly and bolt body of grease, oil and manufacturing schwarf.
Partially assemble it and check for rough spots or drag during the firing pin travel. Twist the firing pin as well as checking it along the travel.
Lubricate the firing pin assembly with a graphite product like Lock-Ease only.
Check the firing pin protrusion.
Check the firing pin travel. It's easy with the cocked bolt indicator.
Check how far forward the shoulder moves on the fired cases.

I've done everything you described. I have as yet to put the rifle(s) to the test. I plan on going to the range Sunday and hope to have better results.
I don't always have FTF's but they show up occasionally with my LC pull down brass with military primers. I understand the military primers are hard but I also reload with CCI #34's and they always function properly. I'm not sure I really need new firing pins but I'd like to have spares when I will need them. I usually keep everything pretty clean and lubed so I find it hard to believe it's due to lack of maintenance.

I think if you go to regular primers your FTF issues will disappear.

I haven't had any issues with "regular" primers just the ones from my stash of LC pull down brass and it's only been a recent issue. Of the few FTF's I've had, most will fire after a second attempt...most but not all. My suspicion is a weak primer strike due to the firing pin being worn out. I do shoot a lot, about 250+/- per week for the last 3 years, The rifles function fine and still shoot 1 MOA or better consistently with reloads or factory rounds. I maintain them diligently.

Umm...the occasional FTF. And the FTF going off after re-cocking the rifle.
Also the total number of rounds shot through my rifles over the last 3 years (somewhere between 25,000-35,000 rounds. I was told it possibly might be due to lite primer strikes. This has only been with LC pull down brass which has military grade primers. But I also reload these LC brass with CCI #34 primers and have had 0 FTF's with those primers.

Hmm... a thought occurred to me. You mentioned something about how far the shoulder moves forward.
Because I'm crazy OCD I measure everything, before and after! Some of the LC brass shoulders have measured well below what my rifles like. I can't really re-size them as they have never been shot but I do run them through my neck sizing die because some get the mouths dented up in shipping/handling. That could very well an issue.

Well, I'm not even sure the firing pin is the issue. Having spares is fine but if the FTF's aren't due to worn firing pins then what? I'm a patient man, I can wait. But thanks for the info.

My gunsmith has had to go through Savage for certain parts. It wasn't a fast process, but it got done. Not sure if that helps any, just sharing the experience I had. Good luck with your issue.

Nope, not sure at all, just going by my experience and what fellow shooters told me.
