Savage fclass 22 build

So this started as a savage mark ii BTV with mediocre accuracy at best.

I sent it to Scott Null of savagegunsmithing in driggs idaho to put it in a richards microfit stock, and do his accurizing package.

408.00 later including shipping i need to finish the stock and see how it will shoot. He had a best 5 shot group at 50 yards of 1/4 inch in bad weather. However it was with federal gold medal match that it appears they no longer make. He told me to put some wolf match target through it so i ordered some.

It is wearing a atlon argos btr 8-34×56 scope.

More to come as i get the stock finished and some shooting done.

Good luck in the comps. Last year we started a 100yd rimfire class running with our 300yd highpower, and I didn't think much about it. Recently I shot 22 at 100yd on the fclass target, boy did I get an awakening by the wind. I can see rimfire becoming adictive.

Have lots of shaping to do though.

100 yards is the A33 target
50 yards A51
50 meters A50

The X ring is TINY on the 50 and 51...about 4 or 5 mm. 100 yards is under and inch.

Here is a pic of the 50 and 100 yard targets before i sent the rifle out.

Well,I got pretty excited about accurizing my MK 2, then I read the other post and now I'm sorta wondering if its really worth the extra money. Mine shoots very well for what it is but like most, it could shoot better. Putting another $200 in a $300 rifle kinda has me on the fence now. Maybe I'll just hang out and see how your rifle does. Please keep us informed.

Tomorrow i hope to give a report on how it shoots but for today just a few more pics.

After 80 rounds down the tube it isnt shooting for shit. If i am not very careful closing the bolt it decocks. Its spraying like a shotgun. I have played with action torque from 15 to 25 inlb.

welcome to rimfire. haha. they are very very very finicky (sensitive?? ha)

start buying every manufacture of match ammo you can and try them. you will find one that shoots. obviously because the Federal shoots (but that stuff is magic)

Id get the other Wolf Match Extra, and SK MT and Lapua Center X

If those don't work do the Eley brand (orange, blue and black box)

Last, you have a savage...accurized or not, it is a factory barrel/action/trigger. Don't expect one hole groups without a custom barrel and maybe trigger. You might get lucky tho and I hope you do.

Im flat out sick to my stomach right now. I shouldnt have to load test and mess with action torque after what i just paid.
Sorry . But I've got a few tests for you to check .
1 take a fired case and check if it's base is flat
2 take a fired case and check if sides are flat , not ballooned out and look for any irregularities.
Check firing pin indent for shape and consistent depth . A light firing pin strike would play havoc with groups .
If you have a Borescope or know someone that does, check the chamber and first few inches of barrel , you want to make sure your smith didn't polish the leade out of it .
See if your smith will stand behind his work ON HIS DIME INCLUDING SHIPPING AND INSURANCE or refund your money !
