Savage F TR Rear Bag Rider Mod?

Good day all, currently running a Stock Savage F TR and trying to figure out a good option to have a flat area to ride the rear bag ears as opposed to the tapered stock angle. There is little contact area given the bottom of the stock angle.
Does anyone have any suggestions to make a better mouse trap other than a replacement stock? Thank you in advance.

I've seen two approaches:

1) Have someone fab up a plate that sandwiches between the butt plate and the wood stock, but extends downward. Attach a bar or tube to it for the runner.

2) Mill or route a groove lengthwise along the toe of the stock, and make a runner from the material of choice, fit it in the groove and secure it as desired (screws, glue, either, both).

I have a Savage F-Class stock with 3.4" spacing (FYI a 4.4 action will fit this stock just by drilling and tapping a hole in the action) paired with a rear Protektor bag. Both the stock and bag are in excellent condition. The stock has been modified to accommodate up to a straight 1.25" contour barrel. Please note, the stock does not come with hardware. I'm selling these as a set for $650, with shipping included. If your current stock is a Varmin Stock with a 3" for end, I might know a guy that would be interested in purchasing it. If you have patience and time, you could make a triangle rider out of wood and fit it to your stock. I have a friend that has made one for the Savage FTR stock and it works great. I attempted to make one out of pine and got close, but apparently I do not the the patience nor time.

Scott, There is a bag rider on the butt of my Eliseo I do not need. We can see if can be adapted as memilanuk suggested and attached on the buttstock under the pad.

May be too tall but we can get an idea for a 3D printed one if this has promise. or you should shoot it as a >308 FTR...

That someone would have to be pretty dang good at modelling to match that curved, sloping surface that is the toe of the stock.

I am liking the idea of a 3d printed item. Jeff lets discuss this further on our ride to MO next week.
I may be able to fab up a dummy that you can replicate in 3D print. Do not want to make undue damage to the stock.

I had the same problem. I used JB weld wood restore putty to form the flat bottom stock. I started by wrapping the stock in plastic wrap, I wanted to form to the stock but not be permanent. I used the JB weld putty to start filling the valley in the stock - multiple layers over a few days until it was higher and wider than what I needed. Then removed it from the stock and took it to the belt sander to flatten and shape it.
Once I got everything as I wanted, I attached it to the stock, again temporary, (in case it didn't work) using masking tape on both surfaces then a thin layer of the JB weld putty. then I covered the flat bottom surface with Teflon tape. worked like a charm for the rest of the F-class season.

An easy out is buy moldable plastic beads from Amazon. Place in water, microwave around two minutes or until you see the beads transition from white to clear which indicates you can now form a moldable mass, be careful not to grab too soon to prevent a burn. Mold it in place using your hands and when hardened in 10-15 minutes you can file / sand to shape. It may require a couple of "applications". To insure adhesion, use a little contact cement. I have used this to mold a flat butt and to beef up the trigger grip area. Its an art form!

Made mine out of 1 in PVC from Home Depot. Easy and cheap. Tommy Mc. Just slips on when i need it.

That looks like a BR stock. Protektor will make you and angled bag that will work well with that stock the way it is.

By a bag that fits the stock. The SEB bigfoot bags can be ordered with the spacing between the ears that you require for a particular rifle. I have one with 3/8 spacing for an X Ring stock and one with 3/4 spacing for a KRG Bravo. Modifying the rifle stock to fit the bag is a bit over the top when you can buy a bag to fit.

But an angled bag that fits an angled stock will still result in muzzle rise upon recoil, more difficult to control vs flat stock.
