Savage F/TR Load Development

I have a matching pair (.223,.308) Savage F/TR's. Wondering where I should start the loads for each?

Thinking of 168 HPBT for the .308, and 80 gr. Bergers for the .223.. Any advice?

Thanks!

Try the 77gr seirras mine woke up with them and shot little groups. But every gun is different. So you might try more.

I suspect that this will sound strange and perhaps be a bit "out of the box", but the 178 AMaxes in my Sav. FTR in 308 can shoot. Also 155s (2156)

Really was able to develop a <MOA and often < 0.5MOA load for everything I've tried (155, 168 Horn, 175 SMK, 178 AMAX and 178 HPBT. If someone wants to donate some 185 Juggs I'd try those too :)

if you are planning to shoot out to 1 k stay away from the 168's in 308 they wont stay trans sonic out to that range i use them for plinking at 300 but not much further. in my savage (1-10t 30" shilen i shoot the 155 amax's and in my other the 178's.
for 223 it has a cbi 1-8t 26" 75 and 80gr amax's

Good Morning,

My Savage 223 F/TR loves the 80 grain Berger VLD's in front of 24.4 grains of Varget. As usual, start low and work up to that load.

She does really well at 600 yards, and can hang with the 308's shooting F/TR under good conditions. I Let my buddies 11 year old Granddaughter shoot it in a 600 yard Bench Rest match, and she shot a 2.9" 5 shot group at 600 yards. She ended up winning the Factory Class division with it.
