Savage F Class Stock for FTR

I just bought a Savage F Class rifle. It had a 6.5x284 and was rebarreled with a 308 for FTR. I don’t have the rifle in hand, yet. Can anyone familiar with this stock tell me if there is enough toe in the butt to get proper elevation or will I need to pick up a joypod?

This isn’t the ftr stock. If it were, there would be proper toe for elevation. I believe the f class buttstock is parallel with the forearm. If that’s so, I’d need a joypod for elevation. Or a new stock.

I have both Savage F T/R and F Class. I used a Sinclair on the T/R rifle and it worked fine. No problem adjusting for elevation. The minute I got a JoyPod, The Sinclair went back in the box. I use the JoyPod for both rifles.

Yes the butt stock on the F Class is flat. Requires a lot of fiddling and adjusting if you use a Sinclair or something similar.

I own both savage stocks, a joypod and a sinclair bipod.

The flat butt f-open stock plus the sinclair bipod is not a combination I would use.
I gather that some people do it and shoot fine but I don't see how.

I had the Sinclair for quite a while. Had a friend who drilled two holes in the Horizontal portion out on the ends that lined up with the feet and threaded them. Then used long threaded stock with a knob on the top. Screwed them in until they touched the bottom. When you released the levers to adjust the elevation, you simply used the screw to go up or down. They also kept the Horizontal part from falling, (What a pain that is). Using this bipod was a breeze and the rear bag didn't interfere with elevation settings. I gave it to the Wikenberg High shooting team when I moved up to one of those mechanical monster bipods

I have a Savage F-Class in 6MM BR (Shooting Open Class). I shot my first Mid Range (600 yd) F-Class matches last year.
I used the Phoenix Bi-pod and a Rear Bag. This combination worked very well for me.

1st time shooting @ 600 yds - 596-29 X's (I have been shooting a 22LR @ 100 yds for several years and I believe this helped me to score well @ 600 yds). Conditions were overcast light winds (3-12 Mph) from 3-4 O-Clock.

2nd Match last year - same set-up, I was able to shoot a 594 31-X's. Conditions were overcast in the morning 65 degrees with clearing conditions in the afternoon 85 degrees. Winds were 5-9 mph from 7-8 O-Clock.

I will be shooting again this year, looking forward to it.

There may be a Savage FTR 223 Remington in my future - Thinking about it?
